Re: 997 Turbo test in german Auto Zeitung!

Not much in the way of test results.

    PROF. DR. DRUCK

Re: 997 Turbo test in german Auto Zeitung!

This is basically what we have been reading in all the other magazines. No real tests ... yet

Re: 997 Turbo test in german Auto Zeitung!

Andrej, something is very wrong here... Are you sure this is from today's issue of Auto Zeitung?? Because, it is exactly the SAME TEXT as in issue 10!! From word to word!!
Unbelivebile if Auto Zeitung made such a huge error and print the same article twice...

You're right! Sorry about that one! How I made such an error is beyond me

Oh, well, off I go to buy the right issue .

Re: 997 Turbo test in german Auto Zeitung!

Auto Zeitung REALLY has the first REAL DRIVING test, here are the test values:

    0-40 kph: 1,2 s.
    0-60 kph: 1,8 s.
    0-80 kph: 3,0 s.
    0-100 kph: 3,9 s.
    0-120 kph: 5,5 s.
    0-140 kph: 6,8 s.
    0-160 kph: 8,2 s.
    0-180 kph: 10,5 s.
    0-200 kph: 12.5 s.

The reviewed car was a manual Turbo with Sport Chrono but unfortunately Auto Zeitung doesn't mention if the test results were achieved with Sport Chrono turned on or not.

The 0-200 kph (125 mph) time is by 0.3 sec better than the manufacturer claim.

By the above test results, one can actually see where the "problem" with manual lies. Each gear change looses time and if you're not a perfect shifter, you won't even come close to these test results, especially not in the lower speed range.

Auto Zeitung mentions that the new 997 Turbo sets a new standard for driving dynamics but I guess this is nothing new. Overall, there is the same tone in the review as always: incredibly fast and probably faster than anything out there on the street but...boring. I still don't want to fully believe that because I heard the same of the 996 Turbo but...

The review doesn't go too much into details, so I suppose Auto Zeitung has done a more "thorough/deep" review for their "sister" magazine Powercar. I expect to read a more detailled review in the next issue.

Re: 997 Turbo test in german Auto Zeitung!

I very much doubt that Sport Chrono was on. Looking at the 0-100 km/h time, that would mean that the stock Turbo fell into the 4-second bracket. I would think it could achieve a flat 12-second 0-200 km/h time with Sport Chrono on.

Re: 997 Turbo test in german Auto Zeitung!

    wowowowo

Re: 997 Turbo test in german Auto Zeitung!

I'd say it was on. Why the hell would they left it turned off when doing a performance test ? Anyways, it's on par with the 996 GT2 MK1.

Maybe they'd leave it off in order to test stock performance. 12,5 for a stock car would be excellent.

Re: 997 Turbo test in german Auto Zeitung!

I suspect a simple phone call to the editorial department would clear this matter of sport chrono versus no sport chrono. But one has to speak german to get this done..any takers..:-)

Re: 997 Turbo test in german Auto Zeitung!

That's impressive for a car that weighs 1600kg!

Here is the babelfish direct translation..it's not an easy read but I hope it helps some
The sixth generation Porsche of the turbo stands at the start. Still more strongly, fast and more precisely than all its predecessor convinces this car with not an expected suppleness - which makes new loading technology it possible who about him speaks, can confidently label names and model designation omit and simply "turbo" say. Everyone knows, which car is meant. A beautiful honour, but the turbo earned themselves it. It plays directly several roles: Beside its part as supersportsmen it acts as an image Ambassador and particularly as technology carrier. Like that it is also with the new turbo of the series 997. To the outward appearances: A new nose apron with large cooling air openings, LED turn signals and far outside positioned fog headlights coin/shape the frontal view. Behind it the new turbo goes powerfully into the width. Larger lateral air intakes supply through in the cross section increased channels to the intercoolers the fresh air. Accurately 22 millimeters more width within the tail range let the turbo work more massively. And as in old times it is again tailliert. Who sees it only short in the rear view mirror, feels reminded - also by the flat standing round headlights - at the first 911 GT1. The new turbo a clear advancement is technical. Differently than perhaps considering the Carrera S assumed, the technicians left it with accurately 3600 cubic centimeters capacity. Detailed work at the well-known six cylinder box he engine equipped with dry sump lubrication provides however for a clear change of the character. Improvement of the responsing mode and more suppleness - that was the development target. New, for the first time turbochargers with variable turbine geometry, used with a petrol engine, have relevant portion of it. Electronically headed for, guide vanes in the turbocharger can vary the exhaust gas stream on the turbine. By this extremely fast working regulation always a brisk and harmonious load pressure build-up is secured - and an output of 480 HP. So far the dry theory, now to the fun. In practice the exclusive technology leads to a new experience of force development and speed increase. In the enormous number of revolutions window between 1950 and 5000 routes now maximally 620 Newtonmeters torque are located ready. The thrust begins presently/immediately, and in combination with the revised five-stage Tiptronic mechanism acceleration runs very linear and supply. Lightning-well-behaved and with hardly noticeable Zugkraftunterbrechnung precedes it even still faster than in the handswitched model - in 12,2 instead of 12.8 seconds with the Sprint of zero on 200 km/h. This perfection is then nearly a deficiency of the new one. Advice to all, which want to accelerate more feeling-genuinly: Only the handswitched turbo is the correct joy donor. In addition still 1484 euro fully there the expensive sport Chrono package ordered, and the noticeable Punch is: With more activated "Sport" function there are briefly still 60 Newtonmeters specially. Exactly that is it, which constitutes the turbo: The sudden employment of 1,1 bar load pressure makes addicted. The road performances are beyond each doubt. Same applies to the Pa M chassis adjustable in two absorption hardnesses. Even the long-distance comfort does not come in the normal version too briefly. In the "Sport" position the chassis processes small unevenness noticeably more tautly. In combination with the extremely precise steering element mediated hardly a vehicle so much feedback and wakes as much confidence as this Porsche. Nevertheless attention is necessary with switched off PSM (ESP), if the Allradler at the limit is to be moved. But also in this special department the driving dynamics Porsche comes to meet the customer, who has special desires, still: For 1102 euro surcharge gives it a Hinterachsdifferenzialsperre. Large confidence wakes in the rest of the particularly stable ceramic(s) brake, which costs 8491 euro specially. That should be with a purchase price of 133603 euro then also still in it.

My personal opinion: CS was very likely switched on. Why should they do a test with reduced hp/torque?

Exactly. Would make no sense at all.

Re: 997 Turbo test in german Auto Zeitung!

SC on? Does car have LSD? Which tires? What temp? Mileage on car and tires and cond of clutch? Stat variance of the various accel runs?

Given that the deltas btwn man vs Tip and 997TT vs 599 will prob be fairly small, need to know these obvious variables to draw any conclusions from pseudo-precise test data.....

Have you ever driven a Cayenne Turbo Powerkit with an almost empty fuel tank? A friend's BMW M3 E46 with SMG can't follow me (by a car length behind from 20 to aprox. 130 mph). Unfortunately I can try this only once before I have to drive to the next fuel station.

Re: 997 Turbo test in german Auto Zeitung!

Your friend is not the best driver I guess? Because I was drivnig against same Cayenne Turbo(KIT) with my ex M3(e46,manual, 19") on Croatian autobahn last summer and he was almost two cars lenght behind me. Yes, I was pushing it all the way up(shifting at almost 8000rpm) but, he also floor his Cayenne Turbo(Kit) to the floor. I offer to this friend to exchange the cars but, he said to me that he do not know how to drive manual car fast(he also admit that he could brake my gearbox...)!
