So, Dimis owns 997 GT3? Then it is normal that he is faster then R8 on Hockenheim.
We are talking here about 997S, NOT about 997 GT3 or GT3 RS.
On ALL EU track according to ALL major magazines R8 is marginally faster then 997S.
So, for you R.Meaden, Horst von Saurma and Alain Prost are bad drivers since in their hands R8 is clearly faster then 997S? OK, I guess...
Regarding REAL world acceleration on the autobahn I can tell you one thing-R8 and 997S are about the same. It will depend much more on the driver then on the car.

I do not fully agree with you. Why? Your point about 997 been still amazing is very subjective one...

Why is it so bad believing that a car is a bit faster than another one? I guess that you think I'm saying all that because I own a 997S and IT HAS to beat all others. Hell no... I can only tell you that I went to place a deposit for a brand new 997GT3 some weeks ago, but I changed my mind for the reason that my car is really new and it's not the right time to sell it. I'm gonna go for the next generation 911 TT in a couple of years. So I really think you got me wrong. . I agree with the fact that no car is perfect!!! You're absolutely right. And to be honest I don't care if an R8 is faster than a 997S or if a 997S is faster than an R8. But depending on personal experiences with friends and race events I really feel that when a car is faster than another I need to say it. That's all. Oh, and regarding this purchase validation... I can assure you I have it every day... Don't need dealers...

Georgie, why can't you accept the 997S for what it is and want to make it the only car worth owning that beats all the other ones? The R8 is faster but is newer and has only two seats. The AMV8 is faster (8.03 SA NBR) because it can be fit with corsa tires from the factory due to its dry sump engine.
The 997S is a great car for what it is, slightly more sport than GT than the competition. But it is not the car you say it is, everybody else is showing it to you, including many Porsche fans and 997 owners.
FYI most people here consider that NO car is perfect, all are compromises, at any price point. This is what makes it interesting, else we would all be driving this so called perfect car.
If you need validation for your purchase, talk to your dealer, not to car enthusiasts on a DISCUSSION forum.

According to German magazines like AMS, Sport Auto, Auto Zeitung and Auto Bild Sportscar Edition R8 is faster then 997S on Hockenheim, Nurburgring GP track and Oschersleben(all times by R8 were achieved with normal Pirelli P Zero tires). So, either are all German journalists total morons or you are simply said wrong...
UK's EVO results on Bedford speaks for itself...
Italian Quattroroute results very pretty similar as well(R8 faster), driver was Alain Prost...
So, you are total die hard 997 fan? OK. BUT, then you are on the wrong forum, rennteam is NOT for total die hard fans of any model or brand.

Besides, I believe the R8 is the first of many variants, designed to tackle other leaders in other segments. Time will tell... Let the game of "Leapfrog" begin!

Agreed, but I guess the models may be severely reduced as anything with a turbo burst into fames!
