    Re: PSS10 Damptronics gets installed!

Jason, I am hearing that the bilstein kit comes with droplinks (at least the front ones). Did you not use these? Did you change only to rears to tarrett?

    Regards

The kit does NOT come with droplinks. The H&R swaybar kit did come with droplinks but they're still not as good as the Tarett ones because although they're better built by the OEM droplinks they still have plastic "ball connectors."

Initially, Tarett only had droplinks that would fit the rear but as I wrote later on in the thread, Tarett managed to come up with a set that would fit the front as well so I have droplinks for both front & rear now.

    Re: PSS10 Damptronics gets installed!

Thanks Jason. I wonder is there any difference in handling with the tarrett droplinks..? Am about to take the plunge and get the biltein kit too and was wondering whether I should also order the droplinks..

    Re: PSS10 Damptronics gets installed!

Droplinks will help tighten up the steering feel but the differences might be so minor that most won't be able to tell the differences. It's also really about durability. The metal links will be much more durable than the plastic links. It might be worth getting in the long run.

    Hi Alex

Parr certainly ant cheep! Just paid Pounds1200 for the Loud cargraphic silencers to bolt onto my existing setup.

SWT (supplying my 20in P40's) got the PSS10's from Germany. They are going to fit them along with H&R Sway's when I get back from California in March. Pounds7K for the lot including Tyres and fitting.

Re the Parr setup are you going to have Cargraphic springs put on to lower it?

    Nick

No I don't want the car any lower right now. Plus it's Pounds1400 fitted for the lowering springs which is eye-watering.

That's pretty good of Matt to get you the Bilsteins + sways and fit them for about Pounds3k!! As I mentioned at Parr it is nearly Pounds4k. I might drop him a line

Actually, the sets delivered from Bilstein DO have replacement droplinks for front and rear. They are very similar to the stock units, but shorter to account for the lower ride height. The Bilstein drops are a little beefier looking compared to the stocks, but same basic design. The fully adjustable, swivel-joint units (eg, Tarett) are much stronger looking. The main reason to swap them out would be adjustability, longer lifespan, coolness factor.

BTW, anyone with a stock turbo care to measure ride height for me? (Fender arch at highest point, to ground) I forgot to measure mine before I put the Bilsteins on. TIA

    Re: PSS10 Damptronics gets installed!

I just looked in the Bilstein box and what do you know, I did get droplinks with the kit. I didn't notice because we didn't look closely.

I'm not sure if the "coolness factor" would be a trait I'd associate with these. You can't even see it.

    Re: PSS10 Damptronics gets installed!

    Jason,

I'm glad you got droplinks with your set, I was afraid your shop just told you they weren't included, just so they could sell you the better, Tarett links. The Taretts, which you portrayed quite well, are the cool ones, not the stock or Bilstein versions

PS - Thanks for the "present" you sent me. Helped with the damper install.

    Ken

    Re: PSS10 Damptronics gets installed!

Guys, Does the coilovers themselfs lower the car?? or is it the droplinks that lower the car ?? if so is there any specific ride height?

    Re: PSS10 Damptronics gets installed!

    The coilovers are height adjustable.

No problem, Ken, glad that you were finally able to get everything sorted out! How does she feel now that you've got it aligned I assume.

    Re: PSS10 Damptronics gets installed!

Can anyone explain the difference between Bilstein B16 PSS10 and Bilstein B16 Damptronic? Are the Damptronics the next generation of PSS10? Or are the PSS10 for Porsche simply called Damptronic? The Bilstein web-site does not explain the difference.

PSS10 is the follow on to the PSS9. AFAIK the only significant difference is the number of of adjustment settings available (9 vs. 10) The Damptronics are PASM compatible (the other two are not)and allow for lowering the car, but the adjustability is limited to PASM on or off (Sport). I believe the main difference between Damptronics and stock units is the valving. In any event, in my mind the Damptronics make a very noticeable difference in the ride/handling of the 997 Turbo. Damptronics with other modifications noted on this and other threads transforms the car from a boulevard cruiser to a real sports car.

    Re: PSS10 Damptronics gets installed!

Actually, according to another thread elsewhere, the PSS10 is not even the designation for these Damptronics. They're known as simply the Bilstein Damptronics, not PSS9 nor PSS10. Adds to the confusion further doesn't it? FYI, PSS9 represents the number of settings each system has, for example, the PSS9 has 9 settings whereas PSS10 has 10.

    Re: PSS10 Damptronics gets installed!

Correct, PSS10 is not the designation for the Damptronics, those are two different dampers although both are compatible with PASM (according to the Bilstein webpage). The Damptronics are slighty more expensive than the PSS10 (at least here in Switzerland). So, back to my orignial question... what is the difference? Maybe it is time for a phonecall to the customer services at Bilstein.

    Re: PSS10 Damptronics gets installed!

I called Bilstein USA. This is what I was told: there are 2 "versions" of PSS10 (anyone corrects me please if I am wrong):

    1. The version that is Porsche PASM compatible has NO external adjustment on the damper. You do have 2 choices of damping, and it is chosen by the PASM button inside the car: Soft or Firm.

    2. The version that is not Porsche PASM compatible does have external ajdustment, a knob or whatever it is outside the damper. This has about 9 or 10 different levels of damping. If you use this with your Turbo, you have more adjustment choices, but there might be PASM warning light, and the cabin PASM button is non-functional.

So in fact the NON-compatible version is better when it comes to adjustability of the damping factor! You could set it to a level that you like. Problem of course is you will have to deal with the PASM alarm light from the incompatibility.

The 2 kits have different part numbers.

    Re: PSS10 Damptronics gets installed!

There is also the PSM compatibility to be considered. PSM and PASM interact with each other, so while the PSS10's offer more adjustment for track situations they wouldn't have the benefit of the PASM and PSM features.

    Re: PSS10 Damptronics gets installed!

    Larry,

From what I could read, Porsche Stability Management (PSM) involves Automatic Brake Differential (ABD), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), and Antilock Braking (ABS). Not sure if the PASM (Active Suspension) is part of the process?
