    I wonder what they're smoking

But again in California anything is possible.

    http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/10/2008-bmw-m3-coupe-being-marked-up-to-100-000/

Re: I wonder what they're smoking

The economy is going down the drain and a year from now they will have to rebate these to move them.

Re: I wonder what they're smoking

People marked up 60000 on R8 here also.
    30000 is nothing

Re: I wonder what they're smoking

Not worth the mark up IMHO.

Re: I wonder what they're smoking

for 100K you can get a 911.. so why pay that much for an M3? :\

Re: I wonder what they're smoking

The cars in general are way to cheap in US anyway.
Though to bad it's not BMW taking the cream.
Sorry if this offends anyone, its not my intention...

I don't understand why EU companies can't just convert EU prices and sell them in dollars.

Re: I wonder what they're smoking

janus, selling cars at the same price as in Europe will cost them a big market share against their Japanese competitors (Acura, Lexsus & Infinity) and of curse against the local products (Lincolen, Cadillac, etc.).
And because the US market is the biggest market for most of them (BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, etc.) - that is something they can't have.

BTW, You can see that at special cars (like the Audi R8), because the company doesn't "fear" from rivals, the price in US isn't much cheaper.
And usually the allowance of cars to US is smaller.
(Waiting list in US for R8 is about a year. at certain EU markets it is about 3-4 months. sometimes less)

International economics are much more complex than that. Cars being cheaper in the US is nothing but a common misconception, it's a false illusion. The reason why some people might perceive that companies are selling products at a higher price in the US is because the dollar has lost 35-40% of it's value the latest 5-8 years. When the Euro was introduced it was worth exactly as much as the dollar. What has happened since then is that the Euro has remained powerful while the value of the dollar has crumbled to a ridiculous amount. Companies and manufacturers have on the other hand not touched their pricing strategies.

Canada is a more sensitive matter since it's neighboring nation to the US. Some companies have adjusted Canadian prices so that Canadians cross the border to catch a bargain in the US.

Re: I wonder what they're smoking

The EUR was actually introduced at $1.19 to the euro. But since most EU countries have a 15-20% VAT, whereas US sticker prices are before tax...

Smart European companies bought forex hedges long ago, but it's going to be increasingly expensive, as few people are willing to bet against the euro at this time.

So either European manufacturers will have to increase US prices, or they will have to produce locally.

Re: I wonder what they're smoking

No great surprise. Anytime a new, and highly anticipated, car hits our state the stealerships try and have a field day. Unfortunately there are always those individuals who will pay these insane "market adjustments" thereby insuring they will show up again in the future. When the ZO6's first hit the market there were $30k markups here in Northern California. Until the consumers here decide than being the "first" person with the "hot" new car is NOT important, or realizes that no matter how much you want that car it's not worth giving the dealer an insane profit margin, this reprehensible behavior will continue.

Re: I wonder what they're smoking

it's amazing that Cali does not seem to be affected by the turbulent financial markets. i'm thinking the dealer marked the car up because there are buyers out there at that price..

Re: I wonder what they're smoking

Suddenly a Veyron is looking like a bargain!

At least there is no mark up for Veyron .

Re: I wonder what they're smoking

Market cannot sustain this, the first batch of M3s will be here in 2 weeks and half of them aren't spoken for.

    Get real.

I know a dealer that is getting 10 and 5 of them are not reserved. There are so many to choose from one can even be picky about options.

Sorry to be the one who brings the bad new, but...
if you buy it from a dealer's stock - he will take you about an extra 100K for it
(That way you don't have to wait about 8months for your specced car)

Re: I wonder what they're smoking

Discover, Just transfer to my account the sum of $1.5 mln and I'll get you one from Dubai. No mark up, no 8 months wait.

I'll PM you my bank details.

Re: I wonder what they're smoking

    It's ok, thanks
Anyway it is not possible to bring a bugatti to Israel.

I just heard from a friend in Germany that the dealer asked for 1.3 Mil Euros for the car.
