    Cayenne S, Drive Shaft Bushing failure

    Just brought my wifes Cayenne S to the dealer as it was vibrating at anything above 4,000 rpm. I will pick her up tomorrow after I pay $1300 for replacing the drive shaft which had a failed bushing. Apparently it is a sealed system and an entire section or in fact the whole drive shaft needed to be replaced. I will know more tomorrow. Any one experience the same? Car is an 2004, with 64k miles.

    Wasn't there a TSB about the drive shaft?

    Mine had to be replaced under warrarnty about 2 years ago just 6 month into ownership.

    Everybody says there's a TSB about the cardan shaft but I can't find it. Maybe it was a recall? In any event, yes, the cardan shaft vibration is a very well documented Cayenne issue. Mine was never replaced but I know many were, and they were replaced under warranty.

    If there was a TSB, then mine should have been replaced under warranty irrespective if my car was out of warranty? Where can I find more info regarding TSB's?

    The TSB is 4822 4 1/2004 - "Rattling noise in the area of the steering shaft and driver's footwell" and it is still available at RennTech.org!

    Thanks Matt, but I think that is the steering shaft replacement, not the cardan shaft (driveshaft).

    Nevertheless, I checked my records and they replaced the cardan shaft back then.

    There was no TSB for the shaft it was a service action based on VIN. All 03's and early 04's were effected. Bad 03 part numbers got into 04's due to shortages. The part number changes but I cannot find the numbers sorry

    I have a 2004 Cayenne S I bought in new in Austin. I also have 64K miles on it and the center bushing on the rear drive shaft has gone out. I have 100K mile Certified Porsche warranty. The dealer in San Antonio is telling me that my problem is not covered under the warranty. Did you guys have your problems repaired under warranty?

    Mine just went out last week. It was covered under a non-Porsche extended warranty that I purchased from the dealer. The charge was around $950 I think.

    Any rotating noise under the drivers side Gary ? not engine, not transmission possible tranfer case or Cardan.

    At the time it went out there was a very loud noise under acceleration. I thought I had a flat tire at first the thumping and vibration was so bad. It was hard to pinpoint the origin at the time but seemed to come more from the rear and/or passanger side of the car, not from the drivers side area. Under no-load the vibration would go away.
