I suspect that the next Cayman facelifted will be 3.6 L 325 hp (taking the current base) DSG and the same for boxsters and the TURBO will also get a super boost.
DSG traditionally on AUDI and VW is always faster (correct me if I am wrong) than even the manual and it can assist the laymen in coming close to or even better than a pro driving stick (tip s on turbo faster than manual and 7G tronic on SLK faster than manual) and I think the next Cayman S facelifted will have a DSG with 325 hp 3.6L and it will be 0-60 in 5.1 s DSG (shave 1 s off the current 6.1 s time).
I think this has all been carefully planned as the 911s and Boxsters and Caymans are all slow compared to the competitions like M3 SMG and AUDI's DSG but with the rollout of the DSG, the new generations lineup across the board will have at least 1 s improvement even faster than manual and boxsters and caymans will be around 5.0 s and 5.3 s (which is what current tip 911 and manual can do) and all 911s even the base will be around 4.5 s (base 4.5 Carrera S 4.1 s) and turbos will be very close to 3.0 s flat to 3.5 s. The new generation is gonna be very fast making the current lineups look almost obsolete in terms of performance by comparisons.

I'm just curious where you get your info. I can't believe anytime soon that porsche is going to up the ante that much on the Cayman and certainly not the turbo, with the obvious exception of the power kit. That's just not how they market their products.
DSG/PDK will improve performance, however, it probably will not be substantial when compared to the turbo's current tip setup in regards to acceleration times.

Although remaining tight-lipped on when the new gearbox will be introduced, Porsche's head of R&D, Wolfgang Durheimer, describes the double-clutch system as a significant breakthrough. "It will take us to the next performance plane, particularly in terms of acceleration," he told Inside Line.
Porsche is planning to offer the 7-speed unit as an option alongside its standard 6-speed manual gearbox. The existing 5-speed Tiptronic is expected to be dropped, since the new gearbox will have both manual and automatic shift modes.
What this means to you: Porsche is taking its time sorting its new double-clutch gearbox, but you can be sure that when it arrives, it will give its cars a major boost in performance.

Correct me if I am wrong, but when we were talking about DSG about 1 year ago, there was quite some mention about issues with rapid downshift from high gears (5-7) to low gears (2) in terms of the dual clutch's ability to queue the other clutch in downshifts.
I testdrove the A3 2.0T with DSG and found the upshifts to be glorious, but the downshifts to be somewhat dissapointing. Of course, I was not slaloming through a straightaway into a hairpin (e.g. Laguna Seca), but for track purposes, if this still hampers the DSG, would it be ideally launched on a track focused car (GT2)?

Everything is just my guess based on my own logic and I am not getting any info. from anyone. It is the only natural path and I am just not sure about the timing. Time will tell.

I actually think PAG WILL UP THE ANTE on the CAYMAN S. It is just an educated guess and I think it is only logical. Think about it, everyone who bought the Cayman S or is on the waitling list in HKG for a Cayman S is somewhat angry by PAG throwing the 3.4 L 295 bhp engine into the 987s. Now there is basically no clear differentiating points between the two products. The next natural step then would be to get some boxsters selling again and by 2009, up the ANTE on the Cayman S to 325 hp keeping the boxsters 3.4 L and the Cayman with the Carrera 3.6 L engine then the Cayman has a selling point. With the base moving up, and the S moving up another 15-20 hp, the Cayman has more space to breathe. It's all planned marketing. It's logical too if I were PAG I would play it that way too... the planned scheme to keep us wanting more and more. While the 07 boxsters see more power, I can tell you in 08 they would do another facelift then the boxsters owners can keep coming back for more. I think a 3.6 325 hp cayman would be interesting but then the carrera must have a significant step up to keep customers moving from the RR 911 to the MR Cayman. The answer, Voila! DSG rollout on the 911 lineup with the carrera and s version first EXCLUSIVE while announcing that in succession it will trickle down to the boxsters and cayman s and lastly the turbo. I am blabbling again thinking that I am the CEO of PAG pitching to the board.

Ferdie I do not think HP/torque will be a problem, since the Veyron uses a DSG as well, after driving a VW GTI with DSG I love it, it is seamless and extrmely quick, it would not surprise me if it would shave a couple of tenths of the acceleration, it works as I understand with a dual clutch in which one clutch works with the even gears, and the other with the odd gears

Agree but that has to handle 1000hp and a bunge more torgue and double the turbo's (4), what I ment was that DSG-variants can handle the HP/Torgue, Golf GTI has only 200HP with DSG, so I do not see a problem P. modifying the existing DSG for 997tt implementation

By now it should be clear to EVERYONE that marketing controls Porsche, not engineering.
This is a ploy to make money. If they didn't sell any Tip/Manual turbos, DSG would come out tommorow - they are milking things for as long as they can - they aren't going to please a small constituency if there are no large profits to be made. They won't spend the money to develop something if there is not alot of money to be made in return.

Nothing wrong with 7 gears. Porsche is also a GT car and 7 gears would be perfect for running to the track to use the other 6 gears.
I'd hate to have my M5 SMG with 6 gears. With 7, it may be bigger but the ratios can be closer for better performance. And if it shifts like DSG, then it'll be a winner.
