Some people say the Cayman has more than 300hp already

I think a better question would be "When is the Cayman going to break 400hp"? After all, it already costs as much and weighs as much as a car with 505hp, so 100hp less seems reasonable to me.
Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have a Cayman S than a Z06 most days, but that chassis can certainly handle 400hp...

I read on the Boxster board a rumor the S will get 295HP for the 2007 model. Can we assume the 2007 Cayman S will have more than 300HP if this rumor turns out to be true?

The way Porsche operates is to fleece its buyers by offering powerkits at a substantial price increse. It is easier than selling the car with more hp and pricing at the same amount as the powerkit.
They may do that with the Cayman but it could cause a problem with the 911 owners.

The cayman will have more than 300bhp when the carrera will have more than 355bhp and the carrera S will have more than 400bhp. oh, and when the turbo will have more than 500bhp.
See, you have to keep order in the porsche line up. It's like a ladder. Push one up and everyhing standing above it has to move up.
The 3.4 develops 295bhp and you don't need rocket scientist to tell you it was made on purpuse. I'm sure some guy from marketing went down to the factory one day and said: "don't go over 299 with that engine or you'll be fired in less time that a CGT goes to a 100km/h"
