    Re: Aston AMV8 RS

Doesn't sound like Aston, but welcome news indeed if true!

40hp is quite a bit, but I am most captivated by the lost weight.

    Re: Aston AMV8 RS

no matter how hard they try , still under the shadow of porsche .

    Ditto

    Re: Aston AMV8 RS

I for one hope that AM release this model and that it WILL be competitive. Am cars are improving rapidly - surely a good thing for all those that are interested in performance cars? After all, more choice can't be bad......

    Re: Aston AMV8 RS

sport seats are a good thing; but to strip the interior is not so wise as aston is known for having nice comfy interiors, but a sport model is great, shows they are serious about performance....Incidentally I wanted to see it S-charged.

Same here, but an RS suggests that perhaps a blower is in the works.

    Re: Aston AMV8 RS

    Louder exhaust?
According to Top Gear, you can hear the normal Vantage 2 miles away!

But the big question is, will it be better to drive

    Re: Aston AMV8 RS

    Sorry forgot the CG image.

Now maybe it's good for 3 miles!

    Re: Aston AMV8 RS

is that the new Mg rover hatchback!?

    Re: Aston AMV8 RS

I think it will look better in real life, looks SUPER squat in this pic, now its really like a 911 hehe. but seriously, when u see how low and wide it is, that helps.

    Re: Aston AMV8 RS

I doubt it can outperform the Porsche GT3s - why you ask? I think it is because Aston are behind Porsche on cornering and handling - they were convinced that the AMV8 would be faster than a 997 911 around the Nurburgring - it wasn't. The AMV8 in Top Gear was slower by 6 seconds around a small track in the Isle of Man (UK) than the 911S. Astons at the moment I think are more like motorway cruisers rather than focused sports cars. I believe there is no substitute for Porsche and so I doubt an Aston AMV8 RS can come close to even say a 996 GT3 (e.g. look at its weight! - for an RS!)

I say stick the DB9's V12 in it, supercharge it, keep the blubber off it, then it might rock.

    Re: Aston AMV8 RS

No doubt in my mind that it can't compete with 996 GT3 as you said let alone 997 GT3 not even if the make it a V8 RSR.

The M400 beats the 996GT3RS on the track, as well as on the road, point-and-shoot, the M400 goes 0-60mph 3.3-3.5 (depending on whether or not you add weight with AC and a stereo ), 0-100mph <8seconds, but any 911 has faster top speed. My M400 should be ready by March/April 2006, so I'll write a comparison between it and my 996TSCab next year.... Unless, I trade 'em all in for an Enzo beforehand as JimFlat6 has suggested.

    Re: Aston AMV8 RS

Al, Trade em in, at least on a CGT - the last real
Porsche made (ask me why later), or go slumming in a 288GTO or F40.

The Noble will be amusing at first, the TS Cab makes a great top down snow plow and the 997TTS will surely be too serious in its usual Porsche Turbo angst laden driving way.

In the world of car ownership, they are nice, but still a tier or two down from the true pinnacles of emotion and driving brio

Think of it like this, if its attainable, wouldnt you rather drink Cyrstal or Dom instead of Mumms or fizzed up Rhine Wine?

I take it you are trying to "tempt" me to "move up" in my purchases? Maybe I should bag the 997TT deposit, and save the dough for the rumoured Bugatti Veyron convertible. . . .

    Re: Aston AMV8 RS

. . .Imagine with the top down at 400kph.

Hold off on the Veyron convertible, they havent certified the 250mph sunglasses yet.

Herr Direktor of Bugatti did say this month that the Veyron was merely the profitless halo car to promote their coming $129,000 USD standard model. So soon, even some Porsche buyers can choose a Bugatti instead.

    Re: Aston AMV8 RS

I think this is just wishful thinking from the english press now that it is clear that the AM Vantage is NOT the 911-beater they've all hailed it to be for the last three years

    Re: Aston AMV8 RS

test drove the AM V8 couple wks ago (manual, 19", + bunch of other options). 997 feels more nimble, balanced, & planted to the roads (particularly over crests & road imperfections). lifting off the throttle, AM V8 glides along like a luxury GT car - even though its exhaust makes it sound like a le-mans racer (quite a bit louder than 997 w/PSE), an odd match to say the least. RS version will prob be considerably more responsive than its base AM V8, but i doubt one will get anywhere near the amt of driver involvement (or one-ness with the car) of a GT3.

    Re: Aston AMV8 RS

doesnt feel real at all. aston has no reason to do a trackday style car. their appeal is to gentleman GTers and not to the trackday crowd.

they already have semi/racing DB9 variants to take care of the real hardcore fanatics.
