Not powerful enough, not fast enough, wrong engine (V6 vs. V8).

Also, you can officially raise the power on the RS6 to 705 hp (10k EUR) or 735 hp (24k EUR) and you do not loose the official warranty. My Audi dealer even "allowed" this on a lease, not only if I buy the car. Amazing!

A family car doing 320 kph and 0-200 kph in under 11 seconds...fantastic! Not that I would drive 320 kph with the family onboard but you get my point.

Well...the Cayman may be on that list as well... angry

That would be surprising to me, given the success of the GT4.  And unless they cancel the Boxster also, there is very little extra effort to sell the hardtop version.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

Porsche will never ever cancel Cayenne and Macan, they account for > 50% of Porsche sales.

And I like them very much.

Still hoping that a Panamera 2 door coupe with hard top convertible will happen one day...

Macan is the only Porsche I am even considering buying in their lineup. The rest you can find better alternatives or more fun cars.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

Viewing a Panamera owner as "bourgeois" is of course a matter of personal opinion, and one that to me is an overstatement at the very least.  So let's just respect each other's opinion on that and move along.

I do agree that the Panamera is not my idea of a family car, as you might consider a R6 to be.  And boosting the the R6 HP would offer a super stealth choice.  But, and here Is of course my perception, the R6 is still an Audi and simply joins all the other Audis and BMWs (black usually) that populate German roads.  Using an example in another post, where someone dinged the new Panamera as unnoticed in front a trendy bar, the R6 would certainly join that company.

There is no perfect car for every use--unfortunately for those of us who are not blessed with the good fortune to buy anything we want anytime.  We just choose the car that satisfies most of our needs and passions, and subsequently watch as manufacturers improve that model until we are once again dissatisfied and bingo we are back at it again.  Dispiriting sometime, but oh what splendid choices we have to choose from these days...

Agree to this. I enjoy my Macan Turbo very much. Think it is a fantastic all round car at a decent price and optioned out with all the goodies it is a very nice place to be and a fun drive. To be honest, I have been trying hard to move to something else in the Porsche line-up, but have not succeeded. The Panamera at first caught my interest, but now I'm totally cold about it for various reasons.

Don't worry, Panamera owners are in a good spot with Mercedes S class and BMW 7 series owners. Smiley

I agree but for Germany, a RS6 is the more "clever" choice because most people don't know the difference between an A6 Diesel and a RS6 with 705 hp. Smiley Actually, this is the reason for the success of the RS6...it flies completely under the radar of many many people and this is a good thing. "Connoisseurs" however know the value of the RS6 and have a completely different view of this car.

True. I like what Porsche did with the new Panamera but this is how it should have looked in the first generation. They kind of "Cayenned" (meaning: they made a swan out of the ugly duckling) the Panamera... Smiley I hated the first 955 generation but bought even two of them because I liked the performance. The look? I hated it. Deeply.

i too would choose the rs6 plus in a heartbeat over the panamera.

as mentioned many times before....the whole porsche lineup leaves me cold. even the 911 r while quite nice....not enough to get me jumoing. the competition has more to offer.

that is without even comparing prices.

Is the RS6 even available in the US?  In Europe, this car has a certain reputation among fans. I always liked it but my wife hates station wagons. The RS6 made her a believer... indecision but I'm not sure she will replace her Macan Turbo with a RS6, this remains to be seen next year. The RS6 is quite long... surprise

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

I haven't driven the new Panamera but based on my experience with the previous one and the entire S/RS Audi range I'd say that in terms of chassis dynamics the Audi is exaclty 2 classes bellow the Panamera. The only dimension where they can compete is straight line performance and it's a shame that the Panamera is only 550hp. If we take the price into account, I agree that the Panamera is too expensive for a 550hp sedan. My configuration came at €200 000.

Also the RS6's interior is very basic. Not even an option to put leather on the dashboard. Even my F10 M5 was miles better than the RS6 in every aspect except the RWD which ruined it. The current RS6 is an old story already. It will be more interesting to put the Panamera against the upcoming E63 AMG with 612hp. Then comes the next M5 with AWD...it will be tough.

The current RS6 Performance is definitely not two classes below Panamera chassis dynamics and this may even include the new one if you don't take the newly available AWS into consideration. Also, the RS6 Performance sounds quite good, something even the new Panamera Turbo still seems to lack.

Are you kidding? The M5 interior is a joke compared to the current RS6 interior. No comparison possible, not even a little bit. The Audi is miles ahead of the M5.

Btw: The next RS6 generation is due in two years, so... Smiley

You surely haven't sat in an M5 with the full leather package. It was a €7000 option but well worth it. Everything inside is covered in leather. In the RS6 you are looking at a rubber dashboard at all times. Nice quality and finish, but still rubber-like material.
