Re: SL500/SL55 maintenance issues?
Would advise to get new '05 SL55 if poss. Have had/heard of numerous problem-free 55s, but have heard of a notable lemon rate for many software-intensive Mercs/BMWs...but Merc contacts/my personal expce/expce of pals is that Merc has steadily debugged SLs over past 2-3 yrs. Most of issues had been software bugs....never really heard of mechanical issues. Obviously, huge difference btwn 55 vs 500 in driving expce. Having also test-driven 600, would say 55/65 are only acceptable choices for those who favor sharper steering/chassis/torque/brakes.

i agree about taking the 55AMG over the 600 (they are only 5000$ USD apart)
as for maintinence, buyer beware, mercedes recently got rid of their free maintinence, and now offer free car washes instead.
i dont expect them to be that much more expensive to maintain/service than other mercedes (as long as its in warantty).
