Of course there's no stitching with vinyl, bad news if you LIKE that sort of bizzyness.

My MBZ SUV only comes with a vinyl dash but still has real stitching in it ,though the rest of the interior has the extended leather . Best of both worlds for a truck : easy care - no worries about sun damage -but more "luxurious " appearing.

Porsche could do that too, but leather upgrades are SO profitable !

    Re: Full or Standard Leather?

Well, the last time I was at the factory they had a rack with dashes stacked according to the builds coming down the line. Sitting one atop another, to me, the leather dash with its stitching looked better.

    YMMV.

    Re: Full or Standard Leather?

thanks again for everyone's input! glad to see such a healthy debate on my first post/thread topic.

appreciate the color and opinions, but unfortunately i missed the cut off deadline for changing my order... so for me, the option to change is out...

have to say, had the window still been open, i was leaning towards adding the option. now, the money can be put to use buying a set of snow tires or something with greater utility...

    thanks again!

    Re: Full or Standard Leather?

Having owned many Porsches ove the years I wasn't able to afford leather in the early years. When I finally got a full leather interior (painted on in those days) I was hooked. The quality was first rate. The natural leathers of today are incredible. Sort of like sitting in a Coach purse! Unfortunately, Porsche skimps on what they call "full leather" so you have to anti-up for all the ala carte stuff to finish it off.

    Good example. Yes.

Now I am forced to up the ante.

Considering Full Leather? Make sure you get the pricey-but-excellent-looking "Natural Leather" option.

The regular pigmented Full Leather looks too much like the vinyl compared to Natural Leather. It's true!

Matter of fact, if the vinyl came with stitching it might be impossible to tell the difference unless you get the Natural stuff.

    LOL

Natural as in 'natural leather' is an oxymoron. Leather is natural cow-skin, no matter its treatment. What PAG calls 'natural leather' is anilin dyed leather, as opposed to coated (painted) leather. Dyed leather is softer but it wears faster, not only from an aging pattina pov, but it's also far more sensitive, as it absorbs anything deposited on it. So buyer beware.

A car seat is not a living room heirloom sofa.

    Re: Full or Standard Leather?

I don't have leather because I bought my car used and was more interested in other options like the car being a 4S and having the GT3 kit.

If I had an unlimited amount of money to spend I'd get it with no hesitation.

However, I do believe that $3300 is a lot of money for the addition. It's not "worth" it, but it's an improvement over the plastic, which doesn't look bad either.

So like I said, it's not worth it, but it does make the car look more upscale.

Personally I believe that Porsche should not have had this as an option to begin with. For $90,000, leather on the dash should be standard IMHO.

So if you have it to burn, then burn it. Just remember that that $3300 could be a cool used crouch rocket or some nice rims or a cheaper Rolex or a vacation to Europe with your mistress.

    Excellent point: I agree wholeheatedly.

Problem is does it (the leather stitching) look any good or is it adding to the clutter?

Remember Porsche's original founding aesthetic: less-is-more, form-follows-function, if not permitted it's prohibited.

    LOL MMD......

I've gotta give you credit, you never lose hope!....

You're still hoping, day after day, month after month, that the population of hyper-obsessive-compulsive minimalists on this website will increase in population beyond it's current population of 2.... or is it 3??......

You know Buddy..., just remember back to this car: (pic below) What a clean interior and exterior! What a _direct_ experience of driving! Yes..., not as luxurious as new P-cars, there were a few comforts but, since my friend just bought one a few months ago, I've been obsessing on less-is-more.

Ahhhhhhhhh..., too bad prospective 997 buyer/guys can't go to 993 summer camp. (prerequisite for 1969 911 RS 2.7 camp?).

    Re: Full or Standard Leather?

    BTW here's an ACTUAL PHOTOGRAPH!!!!

Of a vinyl dash. Compare to leather seats FWIW.

Keep in mind flash photography is very unflattering.

    Re: Full or Standard Leather?

Hey bossnine: is this your actual 993 car interior?

    What a joy!

Hey!!! Holy cow! No "cop car" PCM cluttering things up.

    Re: Full or Standard Leather?

My 993 had a sand beige interior...

My '79 928 has full-leather, and a good amount of stitching on the dash... And I think it looks super, very upscale. Anyhow, bottom line, it's not like Porsche started doing this 3 years ago...

    Re: Full or Standard Leather?

thanks thats the first real picture of the standard leather interior... doesn't look bad at all!

Found this one. Pic is kinda dark but I think this has to be a black interior.

    Re: Full or Standard Leather?

Natural leather (brown) is incredibly nice. Although 'natural' it is tougher stuff than I thought it would be. It DOESN'T pick up every little piece of dirt.
