    Lamborghini LP640 Vs Nissan GT-R
I thought the Lambo would destroy it bad.

Porsche 997 Turbo Vs Nissan GT-R
How is a car trapping around 118mph beat a car that traps around 122mph

Perhaps a little bit of a jump start on the 997?

Re: Lamborghini LP640 Vs Nissan GT-R vs Porsche 997 tu

Seems a little bogus to me. The 640 would win bad, and the 997TT would win too. Look at all the tests done in most all magazines. Why is this one so much better?

Re: Lamborghini LP640 Vs Nissan GT-R vs Porsche 99

    BOGUS!
There is no way the GT-R is hanging with the LP640 in the straight line.

Exactly. The TT would jump the Z06 and be ahead for the first part of the run as the Vette caught up around 150. Maybe people believe this stuff.

Agreed. The telemetry from our recent test of the LP560-4 shows that the GT-R would not be able to stay with that, so the LP640 should be comfortably clear.

And didn't that happen in the video?

    Come on now

Alot of unbelievable things happen, when the boys from Best Motoring are behind the wheels

I almost forgot that we ran the LP640 together with the GT-R in our launch video.. Well I can definitely confirm that the LP640 is quicker, much quicker in a straight line.

I know and the video showed exactly that...

Anyway, just out of curiosity,I looked at the Supertests of the LP640 and Gallardo Superleggera again and suprisingly the Gallardo was faster in the 80-180 in 4th and 5th gear (by 1.2 seconds in both cases).

    edit: 80-180km/h

I am quite surprised by that, since that is exactly the speed range in which the LP640 feels the most dominant.

When we compared the GT-R with the 911 GT2 and LP560-4 the Lambo and Porsche were pulling upwards of 15mph higher on the straights.

SteveD, what tests are you refering to? do you have links or scans or something?

We are publishing this week our video (incl embedded telemetry) of the Silverstone laps from our recent group test (Nissan GT-R vs Audi R8 vs 997.2 PDK vs Aston 4.7 V8).

Then last week's group test was LP560-4 vs Scuderia vs 997 GT2, which we were unable to fully complete (due to a technical fault in one of the cars) but we know what two of the lap times were around Silverstone. We basically need to retest one of the cars and would prefer to publish it as a full story.

Thereafter we will do an analysis of 'how' the GT-R sets the lap time that it does, and why this lifts its into the ranks of very much quicker (in a straight line) machinery.

I would like to get our conclusions published as soon as possible, but we need to do so properly and share the data openly to allow everyone to make up their own minds.

Re: Lamborghini LP640 Vs Nissan GT-R vs Porsche 99

Having spent the afternoon with the GTR at a very wet silverstone, the one legacy this car leaves you with is its tremendous grip and breaking. In short i found myself taking much more speed into bends and leaving breaking until very late. The car flattered my driving skills. When i laterally drove with a professional driver (he regularly drove P cars last year and this year drives for Ferrari) the speed he carried through the turns was just phenomenal. I would be very interested to see how my short and unprofessional experience compares to yours Steve

Did you experience the GTR in the dry at all Nidge?

I am at Silverstone a week today, fingers crossed for a dry day, but am curious to experience it's performance in the wet.

Im expecting something similar to my Dads 997 turbo in terms of performance, but have never driven anything quicker than an m3 myself.

We will have our GT-R video up on the site later this afternoon which will illustrate this point a little more. The GT-R is quick, but not quicker than a 911 Turbo, so its advantage comes from its chassis, grip and stability under braking.

But I still feel it necessary to stress that it doesn't feel like some kind of 'Playstation' gadget. The GT-R isn't doing all the work for you, it is merely removing a lot of the work that you might otherwise have to do in a less capable car.

I realise that might sound like I am saying the same thing, but as drivers we would all hate a car that removed the reward gained from driving it well. The GT-R doesn't do this.

A far better analogy would be to compare a current model 911 with one from 15 years ago, the newer model enables the driver to be quicker but there isn't a consequential loss of driving enjoyment from doing so. I am not trying to imply that the GT-R is the equivalent of a more developed 911, just that quicker doesn't necessarily mean less fun.

It absolutely lashed it down rendering the track with a huge amount of standing water. Ferrari had a track day the same day but rendered it too dangerous (or too expensive) Whilst the rain did have some impact on the days fun, the fact that this car still hurtled around the track at tremendous speed, still sure footed without drama left me speechless. Nissan have employed some very special drivers for this event, each very experienced and currently racing performance cars. My driver for the silverstone championship stint was called Nick. Speak to him (or some of his colleagues) about the different virtues for 911 TT verses GTR and you will receive a very frank answer. All i know is that i did things in the GTR that i wouldn't dream of attempting in my 911. You will love the day, its the best run event i have ever been to.

Re: Lamborghini LP640 Vs Nissan GT-R vs Porsche 99

I always take Best Motoring with a pinch of salt, its a bit like JC, May and Hamster trying to race. The guys in BM are usually racers but they are always poncing around and gigling like a bunch of girls and screwing up shifts!

The looser driving the 997 Turbo - he messes up the shifts so often its not funny and can't manage to keep his line on a track he spends half of his time on! In addition, he starts blaming the rear weight bias on the 997. The LP 640 chap on the whole is going for it but on the very last lap screws up a bit - at least according to what he says - benefit of speaking the language of this cruel race!
