    Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

    NBR: 7.50
    HHR: 1.13,4
    0-100: 4.4 s
    0-200: 14.9 s

Car was equipped with PDK and Cup tires.

    Not bad, not bad

Re: Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

    OMG that's quick!!! :O

Faster than 997TT on same tires (NBR)...

Re: Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

Re: Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

It surprises me that it requires Cup tires.

Re: Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

Wow... only 4 seconds off the GT2 and 3 off the GT3RS from their Supertest results.

Re: Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

The numbers are impressive Looking forward to read HvS's comments,

Not quite: the GT2 did the NBR 17s quicker and HHR more than 3.5s quicker

Absolutely. Quite an amazing test result. Somehow compatible with the excellent test result in the recent issue of AutoZeitung where the 997s easily copes with the Z06

Re: Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

wow, I'm really impressed by those numbers

Re: Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

Does the resurfacing have something to do with this incredible time (and other times reported recently)?

Oops! That was a 996 GT2. The 997 was indeed 7:32.02 driven by WR.

There is no scientific evidence about the effect of the resurfacing on laptimes. FWIW: race driver Marc Basseng guesstimates 4 sec. or so (not sure to which car he refers -usually he drives a RSR). Pole setters in the VLN series have improved laptimes by 10 sec or so (compared to previous year). Not sure how much of the improvement is gained via the car hardware vs. track resurfacing

Re: Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

    What was the 0-160 time?

Re: Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

Could you please post the LP560 test results ?

Re: Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

    Awesome results!!
Facelift GT3 should be amazing!! (Hopefully)

Re: Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

HvS reduced the 997.2 time by 15secs compared to 997.1. However, 997.1 was with normal tyres. I don't know by how much the corsa/cup tyres reduce the NBR lap time.

With an analogous rate of progress do yoy think the 997.2 TT and GT3 can approach the magic number set by the GT-R?

It's mentioned in the article: 8 seconds. The HHR lap was done with Bridgestone Potenza though.

Re: Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

    Some comments from HvS:

    Pros
    > further improved handling (enhanced PASM),
    > better straight running stability at highspeed,
    > less wind noise

    Cons
    > PDK interface ("completely misplaced" )
    > "antiseptic" driving experience in PDK automatic mode
    > Sound less meaty at low revs (compared to 997.1)
    > Steering feel a bit "synthetic"

Re: Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

The Ring time is impressive. However, we must take into account that the acceleration time is so good thanks to the PDK shift speed.

Not quite... The 997s tested by AutoZeitung (latest issue) was equipped with manual gear-box. The car did 0-200 in 14.5s - thus, was even quicker than the Sportauto test car

Re: Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

Porsche shouldn't rely on semi-slicks any more.
7:50 with Cup Tires and pdk is not really quick.

Re: Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

7.50 is a good time for the facelift and a reasonable improvement. Now 997 C2S drivers can at last keep up with a 2003 CSL at the Ring.

Good joke This one-time CSL lap-time wonder is one of the biggest mysteries in the SportAuto history... IMHO, the CSL is a nice car. However, this car is far from being capable of a 7.50

No joke. CSLs are very close to GT3s at the Ring and many other tracks. It is a drivers race that the CSL often wins as it is easier to drive at the limit. The 997.1 C2S cannot keep up with a CSL.

This 7.22 lap shows the capability of the CSL chassis (with a supercharger and other upgrades).

Re: Sportauto Supertest of 997s Mk2

The NBR lap time makes perfect sense. It would be nice to know if the manual version is faster. But one is left to wonder: why is the 997TT so SLOW... IMHO should have been around 7.40.

The factory claim (997TT) actually is 7.42. Just, this number has never been verified by an independant source

...and never will be verified by any "independent" source, unless the driver is as fast as W.R. (same goes for any other car manufacturer claiming laptimes achieved by a professional driver with a racing background)
