Warning Message - Service in 400 miles!
Driving home tonight and up pops a message in the OBC - "Service in 400 miles" accompanied by a picture of a horizontal spanner.
Now, I bought the car 7 months ago, pre-owned, with 6,000 miles on the clock. The current mileage is just over 13,000 so, if the first service is due at 20,000, why am I getting this message now? To further confuse the issue, when I later started the car again, the message now reads - "Service in 300 miles." This is about 10 miles after the first message!
I'd phoned the OPC after the first message to enquire as to why the warning was 7,000 miles early. Their reply was to the effect that it works on the number of times the ignition is activated, so it thinks it's ready for a service. My reply, "What should I do about it?" He says, "Bring it in for service but we'll check whether it needs one before we do it!"
I'm going to take it over next week but wondered whether anyone has had a similar experience? I must admit, being a little cynical, the thought crossed my mind that the car may have been 'clocked' before I bought it and has actually done 7,000 miles more than shown at purchase.
What do you guys think??
