    Re: 991 GT3 RS

I only saw GT-Silver at the end of the day when the sun was already down and the light tamed . In that setting it looked very good and my second best color . But , I suspect that in bright day light is looses it' s presence . Two person have already commented then when they saw it on the track the car ' disappered ' and looked too bland . Now it all depends in which conditions one will use it . For city driving , open roads, it si probably the best color as not flash .

For the track it is not the best, but then to each his own , no wrong , no right  , just a matter of taste .

very true. strange though, for the GT3 i had no doubts that white is great, for the RS i am not sure.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

I think I like the GT Silver on the RS, there are enough surface cresses to break up the flat look of the paint. I think it's the second best 'stock' colour.

And I am not even a fan of any shades of silver/grey.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Photos of the RS do not reflect reality of it's color , except  the white .

This car needs to be seen in the flesh and under different light conditions in order to make a proper opinion about the color .  I have seen now the car during 4 complete  days in all the colors, rain and shine, dirty and clean, morning and evening  , (  expect GT-SIlver that I only saw on Monday early evening ) and none of the photos posted on the internet reflect the reality of the colors .

My favorite remains LO . White gained a lot esteem , but it need some ' deco' . I was disappointed with UV, unless in bright sun and the car 100% clean , it looks neither nor .....  GT-Silver looks great when the light is tamed, but not so sure if the same presence under direct sun light .

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

After having see UV in real life this color is a complete no go for me (personal preference obviously). I was under the impression that UV is metallic, but I realised it is not. It looks like a washed out Milka cow is sunlight angry

I am not that impressed by LO either. It is a little bit washed out too and this comes through in some light conditions. It is "missing" the intensity in the color.

GT Silver looked great in the evening light, but I never had a chance to see it in daylight.

White looked very nice in daylight.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

400 rpm as the RS redlines at 8600 rpm in sport Auto setting and will only hit 8800 in Gear 1 using manual shifting (8700 top in 2nd & 8600 rpm in gears 3 and up so I am told by others who have tested it)...

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Again , those are just numbers , not good I admit . But for real people these differences will not be felt on the track . The driving skills count for much more .

These last days at the Ring I have seen battles between two guys, more or less same level as both are '' winners'' at the scuderia handset course, meaning top scoring drivers , one in a Mc 650 S and the other in the GT4 .  Both ended up being able to compete each other , the GT4 only giving in on straights . And these cars have huge differences on paper .

I consider myself an ok driver, not specially good, but not bad at all . I have been passed many times by guys driving Renault Megane RS . There car is supposed to be much slower then mine, but there better skills make the most difference .

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

you are perfectly right but since the car companies brag a lot with numerology they should not be surprised to be judged  - at least partly - based on that. in that sense the GT3 RS did not deliver. i hear and hope it does in terms of feeling, connectedness etc.

still i have that lingering feeling - based on not much evidence - that the GT3 and the speciale are the more 'rounded' options. not available anymore though...need to stop whining ::::)))))

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

You can't really compare times based on different days, different track conditions, different drivers. How many times have we seen in F1 qualifying that the lap times will drop or go up by seconds from the start of Q3 to the end of Q3, as the track conditions change radically, and that's over a span of 12 minutes, with the same cars driven by the same drivers. Comparisons of distinct "tests" like this with relatively close times are essentially meaningless unless there were a way to "normalize" them based on conditions, which there isn't.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Costing $50,000 more than the GT3, the owners of the RS should expect considerable differentiation. Clearly that is not the case.

Have you check the price of that carbon hood? MSRP is $15,000 already. The rear carbon deck and carbon wing will likely be another $15k. The 918 sized wheels and tires will be another $15k. And we haven't even count the engine bits suspension parts and the car specific extra wider fenders. I think the RS is a better value than the regular GT3, as there are probably more than $50k worth of extras Porsche put into it. The performance is just icing on the cake.

The flip side of that coin is that the remaining 95% of the car is identical to the GT4 Smiley Which costs less than half...

Those carbon parts are completely overpriced and have nothing with the value of the car to do. A custom made carbon hood will cost you $1'000. That Porsche happens to ask $15'000 for it is as backwards as they ask $300 for a painted key case.

Nick, the list you cite is superfluous if it does not translate to substantial performance gain. I firmly believe the RS will hold up in value because of all the hype on the car. However, the reality is its bark (appearance) doesn't measure up to its bite (performance). It is what it is. What matters is how much you enjoy the car.Smiley

As long as you don't plan on selling the carbon hood, the rear carbon deck etc. the spare part prices seem rather irrelevant to measure the "value" of the car. The value needs to come from performance - and feeling. For me the feeling can be very nice - everything will be spoiled still if the performance is not Ok Smiley

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

I typed out an (unusally for me) quite long reply but got some error when I went to post - but from the experiences of a GT3 driver at the ring having seen a few RSes out there last week then assuming you can extract the benefits from the tyres and aero then I don't think you'll be disappointed; it's damned fast in the right hands.

You're not wrong, as long as you have no problem with the lack of power & torque and don't leave the mountains and twisty roads. The wing alone must be dragging invisible weight from outer space instead of creating downforce Smiley

Jokes aside, this is what the RS 4.0 weighed back in 2011 with full tank 1,388 kg

    On the subject of feel...........

This car feels amazing. The intake roar vibrates the gas pedal and those vibrations comes back up through my right foot. It feels really really good.
