More than ever I would prefer the Boxster to a 911 cabriolet.
+1
997.2 Carrera S in Carrara White. PASM-Sport Suspension (-20 mm), PSE.
987.1 Boxster S in Arctic Silver. OZ Racing Ultraleggera Wheels, H&R Monotube Coil-Over Suspension, H&R Anti-Roll Bars, Sachs Racing Clutch, Single-Mass Flywheel, IPD Plenum, GT3 Throttle Body, Recaro Pole Position Seats, PSE.
My wife is actually considering a Boxster (non-S), she really likes the new Boxster but the price tag is kind of steep. With a few options, over 60k EUR... I paid the same amount of money for my first new Porsche, a 993 Targa. Ouch.

My wife also likes the new Boxster. Actually she likes it a lot BUT with the new taxes a Boxster (non-s) comes in approx. 140K euro here in Istanbul.

@boytronic: do you work in Canary Wharf? That road looks like Trafalgar Way going up from Billingsgate Fish Market to Cartier Circle.

Deja vu!! Makes my RS60 look dated and girly... Still the new one would look good with a black windscreen surround like mine which gives the "roofless" perception.
I like your roofless look ...very nice.
BTW - it remains so difficult to draw conclusions from photos - the 2 photos you posted are so different to start with as your car is taken with a wide angle, and the new Boxster photo you posted is taken with a telephoto - the perspective is very much flattened.
The more I look at the new one, the more I STILL like them both. But, dare I say the new one's more complex body bumps and curves are just a tiny bit "Chris Bangle/Z4-like" (I will be banned from Rennteam for saying that!!) and the simpler, rounder, James Dean-roadster look of the old one remains very appealing. I've never felt it LOOKS girlie at all - even though it had a totally unfair "hairdresser" reputation to all but those how knew better.
I'm still wishing for the very first Boxster prototype!

The new Boxster is cute!
Cute...the manliest word in English...
I like the new Boxster but it is a little bit too stylish for my taste (which can be "fixed" by buying a dark color).

I know. I never use that word, but I think it applies here. It really is a cute car!
BTW, black definitely is the best color on this car.

Hey Easy yes I do - pretty sure you asked me 2.5 years ago when I first got the RS60... LOL!
Yes it is small world... :D
Porsche has done a terrific styling job on the Boxster. It is better looking than the 991. It even has more of a manly look to it. Sadly, the hp remains puny and as a result will not change the impression it is a girlie car (which it is).
My wife has owned her S for almost two months and I still haven't driven it.

I can't say I'm as enthusiastic as the majority here. The original Boxster's design simplicity and purity connected it with sports cars from an earlier era that were regarded for their litheness and agility rather than brute HP. This Boxster's design cues connect it with the CGT and 918, cars with twice or more HP in support of their aggressive styling. It would seem to me this leaves the new Boxster as something it aspires to be, but isn't.

The 5hp increase in power appears to be the smallest increase ever made between new models.
We all know improvement in performance requires a lot more than power, but therein lies the question - why didn't Porsche add more power? Possible answers:
1. To leave room for future variants below the Base Carrera, e.g. Spyder, R, with a bit more power?
2. To leave room for a 4 cylinder TURBO Boxster with, say, 345hp?
3. Because anything more than 5hp brought the Boxster too close or better than 991 base Carrera ring time?
4. To allow space for the new Cayman to fit between the Boxster and base 991.
Perhaps only RC can answer the question with his contacts... :)
I'm sure it drives better than my RS60, but I have 303hp and £40,000 GBP cost to change to a similar spec 981S with 315hp is way too expensive!!

Wasn't the Turbo 'her' car too?
So your wife has 2 Porsche now?

My initial impression is much more positive than my initial impression of the 991. I really like the look of this car. I have been debating getting a 991 cabriolet, but now, I think I'll get a 981S. 315 hp should be plenty of fun in an easy handling mid-engine 2 seat roadster, but I will wait for a drive before making a decision.
I really couldn't care less if some people think that a Boxster isn't "manly" enough. I've always enjoyed the more fluid handling of the 98X platform over the 99X platform, and now that power is almost up to my old 996 and the weight is down, I'm quite sure that I will remain the limiting factor on how aggressively the car will/can be driven.
Hat's off to PAG.

Of course , we hope this means a truly spartan nimble James Dean -era 550 Spyder will slot in below the gargantuan Boxster , but I'm afraid it will just be a rich man's Miata built on that coming shared VW/Audi /Porsche chassis .
The car seems fine in general. Except the headlights which seem to come from an evolving Toyota MR2.
