2010 997.2 TT on order - should I order PTV

I have a new 997TT on order for November build and need to finalize the configuration by tomorrow.  I am comfortable with all the options (PDK, PCCB, Sport Chrono...) but I did not order PTV for lack of information.  I track the car (DE) about 20 days per year and do not want anything that will detract from the track experience.  I usually run with PASM on.  Can anyone give me any more information such as weight, intrusiveness, brake wear, etc. on PTV?

AFAIK the only specific info on Porsche Torque Vectoring is what was released in the official press release and the Porsche web special.

I suppose you could understand it more by analogy by seeing what other cars (like the Mitsubishi Evo) do with similar technology.

Let's invert the question: why should you not order PVT? If I were you I would clearly order this option - Porsche is unlikely to offer this performance oriented feature if it does not have a positive effect on performance Smiley

Re: 2010 997.2 TT on order - should I order PTV

From my understanding, PTV includes the Lim. Slip Differential which should explain the premium. After all, it appears to me as an addition to the ESP system and enhances turn-in response and stability in high-speed manouvres.

The only open question´d be how effective and un-intrusive the system would work on a track, given the fact that a. Porsche´s PSM is calibrated very, very well and b. the GT-R set a time that the 997.2 Turbo should at least get close to, one can assume that it will have its benefits.

Re: 2010 997.2 TT on order - should I order PTV

ofcourse you should order it. judging from my X6 it makes the car corner in a whole different way. it actively pushes you into the corner.....

    go for it..no doubt

Re: 2010 997.2 TT on order - should I order PTV

Out of interest (comparing UK prices), what else do you have to pay in addition to this to put it on the road?

I think my spec would be seen as a bit "soft" by people here - more interior stuff, no PCCB, sunroof, RS Spyder wheels but comes in at $190k including all taxes to put it on the road.

Re: 2010 997.2 TT on order - should I order PTV

Mark - It varies by state but in Maryland, 6% title (sales) tax and about $160 for tags (license plates or registration).  As for specifications, in the states, sun roof, navigation and many other options are forced as standard equipment with no choice to delete.

Re: 2010 997.2 TT on order - should I order PTV

Yes, same here, a bunch of no-delete options bundled with the car - parking sensors, phone module, audio interface, top tint, security tracker, driving experience day. Sun-roof used to be too but no more.

Overall, UK prices are about 10% more than the US plus a higher rate of sales tax on top but strangely, the price in Germany for a base 997.2TT is a boggling $207k, so I'm not complaining. Visited the dealer opposite the factory in April and was amazed by the prices, not helped by the bad exchange rate back to the GBP. Whats also surprising is how few Porsches you see on the roads in Germany. It's all mid-range Audis, BMWs and Mercedes.

In the end, here is the order, at MSRP:

Congrats on the very nicely optioned car and the decision to pay for GT Silver. Smiley At this level, I believe in "over-ordering" options and get everything you think you might want.

I agree very much with PTV. As mentioned on 6speedonline, between the 2 possibilities:
    1. Unnecessary driver's aid? A total waste of money? Robot driving for you?
    2. A game-changing option that stabilizes rear end behavior and makes all of us wish we have this on our 997.1 Turbo?
I believe it's going to be 2, and I wouldn't be surprised if this technology will trickle to other 911's in the future.  I think that individual wheel torque manipulation and PDK are the secret of the GTR (Nissan deserves credit for pushing the limits here.) and PTV will prove to be an important technology.

The one thing I am leery about, for track usage, is someone mentions PTV also involves braking of individual wheel. If so, does anyone know if PTV could be turned off?
Regardless I am convinced 2010 PDK/PTV Turbo will be a car not many want to mess with. On the track, or the streets.  Smiley

for all i know, PTV shifts torque to any of the wheels. it does not brake the wheel.

But doesn't it shift torque to the wheel(s) which can use it by braking the wheel(s) which cannot use it?
