Bought a '04 Carrera over the weekend

As much as I was impressed with my E55, after 15 years of driving Porsches, it simply wasn't enough, so I sold the E55 and got a '04 Carrera over the weekend:
    arctic silver
    black full leather interior
    18" Carrera wheels
    PSM
    power seats
    Bose
    bi-xenons
wheel caps w/ colored Porsche crest

Porsche sport exhaust and 6 CD changer to be installed in the next week. Boy, it feels great to be back in a Porsche after a 4 month absence!

I couldn't find what I wanted locally, so I bought it at Beverly Hills Porsche. Flew to LA Sunday AM and drove it home to the SF bay area. Took 7 hours, longer than normal due to break-in period (keeping speed to reasonable level, varying speed, RPMs, engine load, etc., and taking more stops than usual to let the engine rest).

Pix to follow once I get the clear side markers and bumperplugs installed.

Put on a coat of Blitz wax tonight--man, this stuff goes on and off so easily, and my experience on my E55 was it lasted really long.

The dealer I sold the E55 to has it listed for $99K (MSRP was $89K)--I was shocked.

    Congrats Poursha!!!

    Very nice car!
    Post pics when you can!
    Fanch.

    Re: Congrats Poursha!!!

Congratulations on purchasing a Cayenne! I am assuming that you got an "S"? You must have only had your E55 for a short while??? Why so soon?

    Re: Congrats Poursha!!!

    Congrats on the new 996!

Re: Bought a '04 Carrera over the weekend

    Wow, what a surprise!

I also made the step from my 996 Turbo to the E55 AMG but I had no other choice to move my family (wife and two kids).
The kids (especially the 1 month old boy) are too small to drive in the back of a 911, so I needed a fast car for the whole family. I still regret my decision but not because the E55 is a bad car (it is fast and really nice). I just miss my Turbo and as soon as my little boy is 3 (maybe a little bit sooner ), the E55 is gone and I'm back into sports car business.

Why did you sell your E55? Or better said: why did you buy the E55? Just curious.

Congrats to your new car, very nice choice. Would you mind posting pictures as soon as you have the chance to? Thanks.

    hi rc,

    i don't understand your arguments.
    kids? family?
you own a ML55! what is the difference between going 230 km/h in the ML and 300 km/h (with kids???) in the E55?

    just curious.
and trying to get you regretting your decision even more...

Good point rsv, RC we want answears a sports car nut like you should be driving a Lambo Murcielago or a GT2(I know you preter the Turbo) but the GT2 suit you better

    You're a little tease, right?

The difference is P.O.W.E.R. and H.A.N.D.L.I.N.G., that simple.
The ML55 is for my wife and I drive it too when it rains or during winter time.
So yes, the ML55 is powerful but not powerful enough.
To give you an example: the Cayenne Turbo is more than 8(!) seconds slower from 0-200 kph than the E55 AMG. And the Cayenne Turbo easily outruns the ML55 in any speed range.
Maybe now you got the point...

The problem is that you can't (I mean you can but it would be horrible) put a one month old baby in a baby seat in the rear of a Porsche. This doesn't make sense. My almost 3 year old girl would love to drive in the back of a Porsche (she already did a few days ago with a friend of mine) and she loves it.
As soon as my son is over 2 years, I go for a sports car again.
The problem is the decision: a 2-seater (Lamborghini Gallardo or even Murcielago, 360 successor, new GT3 etc.) or a 4-seater (997 Turbo, Ferrari 460 GT, etc.). Time will tell.

I bought the E55 because I thought it would be the perfect mix between a sports car and a sedan. I guess it is, but I misjudged how much I enjoy driving Porsches. As they say, there is no substitute!

Before buying the E55 (4 months ago), I had driven 3 Porsches over the last 15 years, and as impressed as I was with the E55, I really missed the Porsche driving experience. The E55 is a wonderful sport sedan, but the driving experience is totally different--nothing wrong with it by any means, just different.

While the E55 is fast as can be, it didn't handle anywhere near as well as a Carrera, and the driving experience is not as connected. All the electronic stuff going on insulates you--too much for my taste--from the road, and I'll have to say that the brake system is weird (there--I said it!).

For someone who needs 4 doors and the ability to carry 4 normal sized human beings, the E55 is as good as it gets. My kids are young enough that the Carrera back seat is just fine. My son got a big grin on his face when I picked him up for dinner from his mother's house tonight!

The dealer I sold it to has it listed for $99K ($89K MSRP, 4,500 miles). Wow.

    Two pics of my past.
Yes, I miss a real sports car but I have no choice right now (unless Bill Gates joins this forum and wished to make me happy by "sponsoring" me a Lambo ) because as much as I love cars, my wishes (and garage) are limited by my bank account.

Re: Bought a '04 Carrera over the weekend

    Another one.

Re: Bought a '04 Carrera over the weekend

You 996TT sure looks mean being red with lower suspension and painted wheels.

It not only looked mean, it was (still is ) mean.
543 HP RS-Tuning Kit 3, H&R coilover kit, one mass flywheel, gearbox oil cooler, short shifter, sport clutch kit, GT2 wheels (incl. same tire size), GT3 shells, no rear seats, Cargraphic high flow sport exhaust with double tips on each side, full carbon package and so on. The guy who bought this car made a bargain because my Mercedes dealer started to panic (after some potential customers testdrove the car and said that it is undriveable...too fast...too stiff...pure BS ) and he sold it for nothing. If I knew that before, I would have bought it back myself.

Lol! Some Mercedes customers are too cool :-) My dealer told
me that a lot of customers comes to him when the time get switched from summer- to wintertime and they have no clue to change the clock theirselfs and thats lot of customers who never ever used the navigation from Command cuz they get overwhelmed from this simple system :-)

so what the hell this guys want with a Tu???
must be fun to watch them in the 996 by flooring the pedal :-))

Re: Bought a '04 Carrera over the weekend

We were talking a lot about "posers" in the USA but I can assure you that in Germany, we have at least as many "posers" as there are in the United States.
It is unbelievable how a lot (I guess Jeffrey will jump on me now... ) of Porsche owners don't have a clue about their cars, seems they even got difficulties to read the manual.
With the Cayenne, things seem even to be worse. Motto: "It is a Porsche, what do I need to know more?".
