Re: McClaren F1 for sale at SVAG

    Incredible! Thanks for posting.
I've never seen a McLaren in that color combination before.
I'm still fascinated with its central driving position.

In my opinion too. They actually made 65 of them. I read they were going to auction off the 65th one which was not to be sold originally. I think they were expecting $1.8M but I never read about the auction having taken place. I love the colot combo too! Murcielago horsepower but 1700 pounds lighter.

Re: McClaren F1 for sale at SVAG

It is for sure the best sports car ever made. The colour is the delivery colour "Grand Prix Red" for 028 and car 004 has the same colour. They made 64 Road cars the last for the owner of TAG. The number 65 is only a chassis held for spare.

Re: McClaren F1 for sale at SVAG

There will never be another modern supercar weighing just 2500 lbs . Due to current safety nannies worldwide and the ever wider butts of buyers , current and future supercars are all bigger inside and 600-1000 lbs heavier . Gone are the days of chain smoking 140 lb "euro royalty" buyers , replaced by 270 lb millionaire athletes. You can add all the horsepower you want , but that weight has to be slowed and turned and that's when you feel the 1000 lb difference.

Most of buyers for supercars in US are fairly trim tech and hedge fund guys; athletes tend to favor SUVs and big Benzos...

I suspect most supercar buyers today want a car they can routinely drive to office; that can make it up/down ramps and into any gas station (much of why CGT was a marketing disaster)...and don't mind a 3500lb wt if car has all requisite safety systems and software to offset the weight and deliver an N-ring time comparable to/better than the allegedly phenomenal, much lighter supercars of yesteryear....

And if someone's a really focused, wannabe racecar driver w/bucks and the time to go to tracks (lots of retired 30- and 40-somethings in SF and NYC fit this profile), they'll get an FXXX to avoid any of the street car compromises....and tool around town in porky cars like 65/430/612....

I'll look thru my magazines for the auction advertisement and, if I can locate it, I'll scan and post it here. Ron Dennis, manager of the McLaren F1 team wrecked one but I'm not sure if it was ever rebuilt. There may be less than 64 left. Also, I'm not sure if those numbers include the 5 special ones that the Sultan of Brunei ordered.

Luca Cordero di Motezemolo stated quite a few years ago that all future Ferraris ( even their supercars) had to be much bigger inside as their buyer base is ( basically ) getting fatter and taller like most of the industrialized world. Nothing to do with high tech execs pushed by their personal trainers at 5 AM vs rappers eating Whoppers (who do buy plenty of Lambos and Ferraris- look at all the tasteless whored -out LA cars ) .

By your reasoning then , we should only drive SL 65s on the street for impressing the plebes down Freeway 280 at 180 mph at rush hour and play with our Radicals at the track. Forget the poseour Miatas ,F430s, 911s, etc. for driving ( and that includes braking and turning ) on Skyline Blvd on a Wednesday afternoon , right ?
If you think the FXX is anything other than a Porsche -style cynical money and publicity grab and a poke in the eye to now plain-jane " exclusive limited production chosen one " Enzo owners .....

Re: McClaren F1 for sale at SVAG

Wait! Next year, they're gonna make a Super FXX designed to eat Veyrons. They're only going to make 9 of them and they're going to be $5 million each.

Re: McClaren F1 for sale at SVAG

That car is amazing - with the seat right in the middle I bet the driving sensation is perfect!

This one states "air-con" but I thought none were built with air con...?

Re: McClaren F1 for sale at SVAG

The AirCon ist tailor made for the car the same for the Kenwood Sound System.

Re: McClaren F1 for sale at SVAG

FWIW, Ron Dennis was and is CEO of the McLaren group of companies, not just "manager" of the F1 team. The car he wrecked at the Suzuka track in 1993 (in the lead-up to that year's Japan GP) was a pre-production prototype, so shouldn't count as one of the 64 customer cars? I'm guessing the damage to it would not have been so major that it would not have been fixed.

Re: McClaren F1 for sale at SVAG

Read between the lines here and you will see that 270lb atheletes and Volvo minded overpaid geeks have ruined the sports car market. Yes, Volvo minded overpaid geeks.

Sorry, but the Lotus Elan was the best sports car made, a
early 70's 911 S or RS is runner up. Both you can drive just about anywhere.

Love the Mclaren if you must, but its really more show car than go car. For a show car that goes, its great, but they cant really go anywhere, can they?

If the Lotus breaks, you can fix it yourself(and fix it often!). If a Mclaren goes akimbo you have to fly the dam thing to the UK. Love carbon fiber? Hit a bunny and you have a 25K bill. Now thats smart design isnt it? Anyone
    price a Mclaren windshield? LOL.

The McLaren is a waste of money and also pathetically slow compared to a Bugatti Veyron, wich is just as dubious of
a automobile but staggeringly faster in all regards. Trophy cars are like trophy wives. They dont wear well.

So, would the BMW dealer be clueless to work on the motor? Can't argue with the early 911S or RS compliment, but I'd be willing to trade

Re: McClaren F1 for sale at SVAG

Yes they would be. Its systems are beyond the comfort zone and knowledge base of most BMW dealerships. Much less the other bits on the car. Trade up if you can! That first rock chip will cost you the price of one pristine 911T to fix.
