    C4 & C4S

    Press release due out Monday with pictures. Car is 44mm wider than the Carrera and Carrera S cars. $10K premium on both.

    Great pic. Did the 996 C4S come out before the 996 Turbo? I forget, because I always see the C4S as being what the 'Turbolook' 911's were to the 911 Turbo's in the 80's.

    I Guess the premium really is for the AWD, because the car looks identical to the C2, C2S

    996 Turbo released in 2000
    996 4S released in 2001

    By the way, I still don't get the logic behind widebody on 4WD. I would rather have seen widebody on the S model (both C2S and C4S). Not that I am jealous, not at all...

    Anyone?

    At first, I agreed with you. But then, what about the turbo? 997 turbo will have have normal width and 997 turbo S will have the widebody? I think it makes sense to have the Carrera 4 models be widebody plus AWD. And Turbo models will add the turbo on top of the "Carrera 4", plus other goodies. Regardless, I don't think it matters too much because I don't think anyone can tell the difference visually, except for the badge.

    Heh, yes if you look at it that way then it makes sense (kind of). I guess they should have left all Carreras as they are and only widebody on the Turbos - like the good old days

    On a 2nd thought... following your reasoning, that would mean the Turbo will have a 3.6l engine and the Turbo S will have 3.8 l engine

    turbo S according to 996, is just a turbo with powerkit and some other incidentals.

    Yes, that was 996 universe. The 997 universe seems to follow completely different laws... like widebody 4WDs and a C4S released before the Turbo.

    It was just a silly thought that struck my mind - please ignore

    Hmmm... Looks the same and the C2 & C2S. The red one doesn't even say "Carrera4" in the wheel center caps

    After the Turbo is out I bet we will see a Turbo-Look (widebody) Carrera 4S...

    I agree with you, "Carlos from Spain"!

    I also do not see a real difference between the 2WD and the 4WD Carrera (S). Could be a little photoshoped pic?

    So I'll still have to wait...

    I like the 996 C$S look way way better, with the turbo vents and with no wail tail, it looked very sleek! The new 997 C4S has a very subtle look.

    The 996 C4S is a Turbo-Look carrera, the 997C4S is just the S version of the C4.

    You will have to wait till the actual 997 Turbo is out to see a 997 C4S Turbo-Look later on, just like in the 996 line-up.

    Me too, I do not understand why the C4 and C4S have wider bodys.... If it would be the turbo look I would get it , but here? Is there any need for wider wheels? Does the car need the extra 44mm to be better around corners?
    I like the shape of the C2 but will order the C4S

    There is no real need, but the Carrera 4S will be able to go faster around the corner (if it won't be much havier like the 2WD Carrera S).

    Do you believe this brochure is true ? If yes, there is no more need to wait for the IAA in Frankfurt... and we can start with checking the options..

    Just my opinion.


    The pics above seem true to me. I know there is no carrera 4 badge on the wheels of the C4 but there was also no carrera badge on the wheels of the C2.(just like the 996)


    So i think in this issue maybe porsche decided to go with the crest in the wheels.


    NOTICE however the 18" in the C4 !!

    They are wide very wide compared to a C2

    So it must have wider 18 wheels at the mack which confirms partially that this car has a widebody with larger back flares
