    I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

Finally...I was able to convince my wife to end her SLK 32 AMG lease and forget about the SLK 55 AMG, especially since I testdrove the SLK 55 AMG and the only impressive things were the engine, the auto tranny and the exhaust note.
Handling was horrible, even below SLK 32 AMG level in my opinion. The heavy engine takes a "tribute".

Well, here are the specs for the ordered Boxster S:

    - Basalt black met.
    - Black leather with red stitching allover incl. steering wheel (I attached a 997 interior pic with this option)
    - Red seatbelts (together with the red stitching a nice contrast to the red brake calipers)
    - "Thicker" sport steering wheel (incl. red stitching)
    - PCM 2 with phone module
    - Tiptronic (my wife... )
    - Sport Chrono (for me... )
    - PASM (to satisy my wife AND me )
    - Heated seats
    - Speed control
    - Sport seats
    - BOSE sound system
    - Small carbon package
    - Bi-Xenon lights

I wanted to get PCCB and bi-coloured leather but my wife wants red calipers and Porsche Exclusive department asked around 2700 Euro for red calipers with PCCB. Not acceptable. The red stitching looks more interesting compared to the bi-coloured leather and we also went for 18'' wheels instead of 19'' because of the "tiny" looking brake calipers with 19'' and the fact that my wife loves to scratch along boardwalks and 19'' are pretty expensive.

Factory pickup (here I come...hide your mules... ) is around early June.

    Re: I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

Another "red stitching" picture. It really looks nice, especially on a Cab/Roadster.

    Re: I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

    Congratulations!

Maybe since the car is black, you could get the windshield with the green tinted band, just in case it gets sunny
    there!

Yep, we ordered that too but I think it is grey over here.

    Re: I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

Looks good, I like the red stitching

    Re: I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

Mmm - I just wonder how you could order on April and pick up the car in June. I ordered mine in January and delivery is expected in May or June....

    Connections, connections...;)

    Re: I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

Very nice! I am sure she will love it. Ah, maybe you as well, once you appreciate the handling capabilities of a midengine car.

    Re: I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

looks like they missed some stitching in that picture. gearshift/doors.

i hate it when stuff like that happens (hmmph)

    Re: I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

Does the Sport Chrono make a significant difference with the tiptronic? For example, does the 0-60 time improve? By the way RC, did you test drive a tip Boxster S?

I drove a Boxster S with Tip but the car wasn't equipped with sport chrono. The Tip seems to be the same like on the 997, reaction time, throttle response, shifting, everything seems to be very similar to the 997 Carrera version.
So if your dealer doesn't have a Boxster S with Tip, testdrive a 997 Carrera (not S!) instead.
I ordered the sport chrono anyway because I have it on my 997 Carrera S and I love it. It is a MUST HAVE option in my opinion. I doubt that sport chrono improves 0-60 acceleration time (if you floor it, you floor it) but it provides a faster shifting response and a better throttle response and trust me, with an automatic tranny (the Tiptronic is nothing else), you need all "response enhancement" you can get. And of course the PSM reaction is changed too but on a mid-engined car, this could result in some tricky behaviour, this is why I wanted to testdrive chrono sport to see what happens. Anyway: I wouldn't order a Tip car without chrono sport and if you don't like it...just keep it turned off.
And if you're a "comfort" type of guy, you should get PASM too. I drove a Boxster S without PASM and it already feels pretty stiff. I like it but some people may not always like it, especially if they live in areas with bad streets.

    Re: I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

Congratulations! The red stiching looks pretty cool..

Is your wife a Cabriolet-fan or didn't you want her to outrun you in a Cayman S?

    Cayman S? I own a 997 Carrera S and I surely don't have any plans to go for a Cayman S.
My wife drives a SLK 32 AMG right now, she loves cars with open tops, especially when the weather is nice.
She wanted a SLK 55 AMG (her SLK 32 AMG lease runs out soon) but I talked her out of this and convinced her to get a Boxster S. Since I will drive this car too when she has the kids and the Cayenne Turbo, I really hated the idea of driving a SLK 55 AMG. I testdrove one and the engine/tranny are the best of it's kind but handling sucks and it just feels ridiculous. The SLK has a bit of a "housewife's Porsche" or "hairdresser's Porsche" reputation over here in Germany, so I never really felt too good driving a SLK. But of course I care more about handling and drive feel and the Boxster S is practically the best car in it's class in my opinion. The engine is a bit underpowered but otherwise, the Boxster S is a great little sports car.

Oh I know, I was thinking about if your wife had gotten a Cayman S instead of a Boxster S. According to the media (and Porsche I guess) the Cayman is going to be THE handling Porsche, and maybe you would have felt "threatened" by your wife driving a better handling/faster car than your Carrera S.

No, my wife definetely wanted something with an open top and I enjoy driving "topless" too when it is hot and sunny outside.

    Re: I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

Congrats! Almost my spec, except for the red stitches and tip.

I can imagine that the car feels a tad underpowered for you but hey.. after all... you're coming at it from the wrong end of the scale (997s)!

For me it's the other way round. I drove but never owned anything beyond 225HP and since yesterday, I get that constant Woah effect when driving to work in my new toy.

If you ever feel really really unhappy about the 987s power output, I'm sure I could arrange for a Ford Escort Diesel loaner for a few weeks to shift perspectives ;-P .

My daily drive is a Ford Focus Diesel, and I can assure you my 280 bhp Boxster "S" is like the Starship Enterprise in comparison.

    Re: I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

Is the red stitching an option are a "Porsche Exclusive"? What are the extra costs?
    Thnx

I ordered it for the doors too and there can't be red stitching on the gearshift because I ordered Tiptronic.

    Re: I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

    very nice choice, congratulations RC!

(PS wasn't it tough to get out of the SLK leasing contract?)

    Re: I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

Very nice! Sorry to hear that your wife is not 6-speed friendly I'm sure she more than makes up for that in other areas.

    Congratulations!

Though isn't there stitching on the handbrake lever even on a Tip? I'm extrapolating from 996TTS Tip w/upgraded, leather/alum shifter/handbrake.....seems like there are 2-3 codes to make sure stitching is deviated everywhere.....

    Re: I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

you have to order additional exlcusive options to make sure to get stitching EVERYWHERE. some areas do not get colored stitching unless you order a special exclusive option that covers the area with the 'exclusive' status.

its very confusing. ordering the 4 explicit stitching options is not enoguh to get stitching everywhere. (bad porsche)

    Re: I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

    how much extra is it????

    Re: I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

red belts would be kewl with that stitching.

    Re: I just ordered a Boxster S...specs

Congrat on your new purchase. I am sure you'll love it, tiptronic or not. I just order a Boxster myself, base model 6 speed w/ full leather. I have been toying with the idea of ordering the thicker sport steering wheel but can't make up my mind. On one hand I think it will make the car special, on the other I think it is overkill for just a little Boxster (more like a 997s option I think).
Did you get your hand on one? How different does it feel from the stock sport steering wheel ?

    Thanks & Happy Boxstering

I just got my Boxster with the 3-spokes leather wheel (the round middle), and I love it. It feels just perfect. For the little extra money it costs, you get both looks and great feel. Worth it imho.

I have pretty small hands ("surgeon hands" ) and a thicker steering wheel feels just better.
I can highly recommend this option, it provides a better grip if your hands are small/medium sized. Of course if your hand is bigger than your foot...forget about it.

The steering wheel with the red stitching in the above picture is actually a thicker steering wheel from the factory. There doesn't seem to be much difference but trust me, it feels completely different. This is not a particular 997 option, it "suits" the Boxster too very well. I ordered it especially because of my wife but I wanted to have it for me too on my 997 but I don't want to spend more money right now for a retrofit...the sport exhaust is more important.
