    dashboard lights question

    when the headlights are in the "off" setting and it is getting dark outside, do your dashboard lights automatically turn on? also i noticed my rear parking lights were on as well.
    for instance, if its sunny out and you go into a dark tunnel or parking garage, do the dash lights or parking lights come on at all? it seems mine does but have never noticed before. my car just got the dreaded "system fault" messge for the front latch. do you think this is associated with that? thanks

    actually, can someone go out to their garage and tell me if their dashlights and rear parking lights turn on while inserting teh key in the ignition and turning it to the accesory position (not starting the car, and lights switch at the "off" postion) thanks.

    The dashboard lights are supposed to come on...what you are describing is exactly what is supposed to happen. Except of course 'system fault' which isn't supposed to happen....when was your car built?

    My dashboard lights don't come on if it gets dark and the headlight switch is in the Off position. Are you sure this is supposed to happen?

    I thought the dash lights were always on, but change in intensity based on ambient lighting conditions. LOL Tell me and we'll both know!

    Page 80 of the manual....the dashboard lights ARE automatic

    Instrument Illumination
    The illumination is automatically adjusted to the
    ambient brightness by the light sensor in the
    tachometer.
    In addition, when the car lights are switched on,
    the instrument and switch symbol brightness can
    be manually adjusted.
    Warning!
    Risk of an accident, personal injury and loss
    of control.
    f Do not reach through the steering-wheel
    spokes while driving.
    Dimming instrument illumination
    f Turn adjustment button A in the appropriate direction
    and hold it until the desired brightness
    has been reached.
    The chosen level of brightness is indicated by
    a bar display in the display field of the on-board
    computer.

    Mine definately don't do this while the lights are switched off.

    Someone from Canada posted on another forum that theirs don't either....Could be a US specific function, but 100% they do this in US cars as described in the US manual.....My car park is dark, so everytime I park, I see the dashboard auto illuminate.

    Mine doesn't light up automatically either, I always have to manually flip on my headlamps.

    well i have determined that my instrument lights coming on is NOT normal. i think its accociated with the "system fault" problem. even in bright sunlight, the lights are on. someone else reported that after they got the "system fault" message, that their nav goes in night time mode automatically now. parts are on backorder from germany according to my dealer

    j fraser, is that a "system fault" message i see? do your rear tailamps turn on as well? i think we have the same problem

    OK PEOPLE listen to this.
    i dnot know if this is accosiated in any way BUT:


    If you have sport chrono there is an option for havind lights on at day light!
    From the menu of the PCM at personal preferences you can adjust this along with temperature and car lock preferences.

    MOREOVER, the manual sais that:

    In some countries the "day lighs on" function ,that you can program via the PCM screen, if you have the sport chrono ,is not working

    THIS IS HAPPENING BECAUSE CARS DELIVERED IN SPECIFIC COUNTRIES ARE PRE-PROGRAMMED TO OPERATE WITH LIGHTS ON EVEN ON DAY LIGHT IF REGULATIONS REQUIRE IT.

    it is on the manual,maybe this is a lead?

    no i dont think the day time running lights has anything to do with this problem. in the sports chrono menu, by activating the drl's, the only lights that come on should be the headlights, not the interior lights nor the tail lamps.
