    Finally!

After many threads and many complaints of not seeing one, not one 997 or 997S in the Porsche capital of the world (Southern California ), today on a quick trip into Pasadena (home of the Rose Parade, Cal Tech, Jet Propulsion Lab) I saw not one, not two, but three 997s on the road including a beautiful Slate? or Atlas? Grey (one shade daker than my Seal Grey) 997 driven by an old lady!

    In Pasadena? Makes sense

    Re: Finally!

    "Talkin' bout my generation".

    Re: Finally!

That's strange that you haven't seen any 997's until now. What area of LA do you reside in, vtrader?

    Re: Finally!

vtrader: congrats on finally making parole! i know these past few years have been difficult on you, but you made it!!

I live in the Pasadena area and commute to OC everyday on the 5 freeway. I just never saw any. The final count for today was 4. In fact I saw more 997s than any other type of Porsche today. Other than one I saw in San Francisco in October, these were the first 997s I have seen in So. California in 7 months.

    Re: Finally!

Gettin common then!! Oh well, it had to happen sooner or later

I guess I wouldn't expect to see too many on that stretch of LA freeway. Do you use your 997 as your daily commuter car?

You would expect to see them im the Pasadena/San Marino area but I did not.

I commute with the car only rarely. Last year, I got rear ended three times so I use an older car to commute.

In one year? Holy crap. I use my 2004 Acura TL as a commuter car. Unfortunately, I decided to let my wife drive it once and now she wants to drive it all the time. Which leaves me the 997 to get to work. Oh well, I guess I could commute in her Honda.

Thats horrible vtrader! truly unfortunate to have to share the road with such drivers and being forced not to enjoy the 911 in the daily commute

When I'm in the US I always get the feeling american drivers do not take driving seriously enough... eating, drinking, talking on the cellular, left lane hogging, driving slouched back like in a sofa, clueless of whats going on around them, etc.

Driving is a privilege you earn and a responsability, not a birth given right. I feel for you "real drivers" there, specially the sportcar fans.

That sounds like wife! Well, except for the left lane hogging. She knows better than that. I know, I'm bad. I'll probably be hit by a golf ball later today for saying that.

Carlos you're damn right!! but it's very sad that it's going in the same direction in europe on the roads...

It's really like Jeremy Clarkson once said: If everybody would ever concentrate themselves very hard on driving while doing so, nobody would never ever crash...

    Re: Finally!

Very true, its slowly tending towards that here I believe too

Wow, first time Jeremy says something that makes sense!

I have been reading rumors that Porsche has not freed up many allocations especially for the 997S.

There are two possible explanations for the unusal behavior on the part of Porsche.

First, quite possibly but not likely, is that Porsche is beginning to partner with its customer owners and protect their purchase value by limiting production. That is so not Porsche, it defies logic.

Second and more likely, is Porsche is holding back on 997S production for 2005 in order to allow dealers to unload 996's still in their inventory. The 997 flood gates will open for 2006 at a higher MSRP.

Hmnn, which explanation should I believe?

Although he is not very rigurous in his tests and lacks usefull information for enthusiasts, he is very funny and its a very very entertaining show I always see it

Fifth Gear though, with Tiff Neddle and Vicky Butler-Henderson, is more informative, profesional & knowledgeable but way too short

    Then, there's always my favorite:

Tiff Neddel is great. Vicky is parsley on a steak dinner.

I don't think so. She knows more about sportcars and can kick most of the people on this board's butt at the track...

    Agreed!

    Re: Finally!

I also agree. Needles was once an F1 driver and has driven at Le Mans. VBH races cars and bikes. She is also a racing instructor in the UK. She is much more than "parsley", she is probably more of a "car guy" than most guys!!!!!
