pretty cool gift from PCNA re: CGT

It's an original sketch by "famed Porsche designer Grant Larson" of the CGT concept

Re: pretty cool gift from PCNA re: CGT

Wow thats awesome!!! How big is it? What are its dementions?

Re: pretty cool gift from PCNA re: CGT

    That's really nice, Ben.

Did it come direct from PCNA, or through the dealer?

It came from PCNA, is matted and framed, and is 20 1/2 X 25 1/2. It's beautiful and looks like something Farina would do. Will look nice in my garage.

    Wow!

I guess I'll wait by the mail box for mine to come in a few months.

    Or, ... maybe you're "special"

    lol, i highly doubt that

Re: pretty cool gift from PCNA re: CGT

    Cool gift

    Grant Larson, aka Farina

Re: pretty cool gift from PCNA re: CGT

    Sweet!

    Mike,
when I was first given the opportunity to ride in a CGT the owner told me about how PCNA had sent him a print like this. He showed me a photograph -- it was a similar print but a different angle, so who knows they could all be original. I definitely think you'll get one though.

Any word on those Oakley shoes? I went for a drive in the Enzo & F50 with mine last weekend

Re: pretty cool gift from PCNA re: CGT

Very nice indeed. It seems that the CGT started to "grow" on you, I'm delighted to see that.

ben, it needs a good, experienced and passionate driver to be able to really appreciate the CGT. Congrats, I wish I would be able to own a CGT too.

No problem. A new CGT in the US is being discounted close to 10% off MSRP. Factor in the strength of the Euro dollar, that is an additional 30% off. So if my math is correct, you can get one for about $303,000. Go for it!

Re: pretty cool gift from PCNA re: CGT

Grant Larson is a graduate of the Art Center.

Here's a web snag of the goings-on at "Art Center College of Design's 4th annual showcase of some of the world's finest automobile designs and the visionary designers who created them."

"You might ask why Art Center College of Design in Pasadena organizes and hosts such an automotive event? It is because there is no other educational institution that has had a greater impact on automotive design than Art Center College of Design, nestled high in the mountains above Pasadena.

By some estimates, more than half of the world's car designers are Art Center graduates. Art Center alumni hold top design positions at Acura, Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Lexus, Mazda, Nissan, Porsche, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo. Strother MacMinn, Peter Brock, Chuck Pelly, Jack Telnack, J. Mays, Larry Shinoda, Wayne Cherry, Grant Larson, Chris Bangle, Craig Durfey, Ken Okuyama, and Shiro Nakamura are among the many well-known graduates of Art Center.

Besides viewing up-close more than 100 of the best examples of supercars from years past to today, visitors were able to listen to seven guest speakers who discussed their automotive design philosophies, then answered questions from the audience.

These seven distinguished guests included Dan Gurney (racecar driver, racecar manufacturer, inventor and racecar team owner), Reeves Callaway (founder, Callaway Companies), Henrik Fisker (Art Center graduate, Executive Director California Advanced Product Creation Studio, Ford Motor Company Design Director, Aston Martin), Grant Larson (Art Center graduate, Manager of Advanced Exterior Design, Porsche AG), David W. Marek (Art Center graduate, Chief Designer and Senior Manager, Honda R&D Americas), Frank Saucedo (Art Center graduate, Director, GM Advanced Design Studio) and Freeman J. Thomas (Art Center graduate, Head, Pacifica Advanced Product Design Center, Daimler-Chrysler)."

Below is a photo of Grant Larson.

Nick, MSRP is $448.3K. Your math is off. The only new car you personally know about that actually sold at a disc too MSRP was closer to 7% off which is in line with most new Pcar discounts. Given this is about all the profit there is in a CGT for a dealer (including the holdback), my bet is Porsche is rebating the dealers some money. Incidentally, that 7 to 8% off figure is as cheap as I've seen any new GTs go for.

Ben on another site a person claims to have paperwork for a new CGT for $390,000 which he subsequently turned down reasoning that he probably could get one in a few months for close to $350,000.

BTW, the falling price of the car has no relationship to how good of a car it is. Every time I ride in it, the more impressed I am with the car. Or is it your driving?

Sounds like trying to short-sell securities.

Good way to get burned if the price trend turns around.

I think the problem was the initial easy availability for such a small market and the press. My guess is it will turn around when all CGT's are delivered to their owners and people start to find out that the negative press it got (clutch, etc.) was mistaken or simply get a ride in one (like Les).
It will be the supercar to have for the real "drivers" that can afford a supercar, and just want a supercar to drive it and enjoy it period. It will separate the drivers from the poseurs, just check back in a couple of years and see the milages of the CGTs vs the other supercars. So if they want one then they will have to pay for it since, unlike other makers, it will be a while before Porsche decides to build such a car again.

if you're referring to wayne's post, it wasn't a new 05. fwiw, if dealer cost is $413k and they keep someone's $50k deposit, they could conceivably sell one pretty cheap.

I genuinely hope you are right. It is a terrific car for the right type of person. It is not a car for a speculator (after all it is a Porsche) but a serious driver enthusiast. Additionally, I believe(notwithstanding Porsche silence on the matter) they listened to the compliants and adjusted the ride quality(changed the factory settings) and the clutch.

Well said. But remember not everyone can drive it through out the year. W8MM for example has weather conditions but I think your right anyway Carlos.

That will take a while, as there is a thread right now on fchat where supposed car enthusiasts are completely clueless about the CGT. I for one am glad that they have built "so many", because that ensures that i will get to ride with some and see + hear such a phenomenal machine. I have already been to a ride where a cgt participated.

I'm sure that owners like mike and ben will smile all the same even when they realize that they fit in their seats better because their wallets are thinner. It is the only street car i have experienced that doesn't sound like a car.

    If any car is worth the $$$ then this is the one;

    tom

I think there's something to this. When the McLaren F1 was launched, they initially planned to build 300 but had so much trouble selling even 100 units (I think the final total was actually 84 or 86 built including racers), that they stopped production. Now you pay the same $1M or more for their cars which can have 10K miles. Porsche's marketing folks are pretty talented but I wonder if they may have misjudged how many people with the money actually want such a car.
