911 Carrera R

Hello

There is coming a new 911 again, but .....its a limited edition wich will only be on sale in the Netherlands.
It is the Carrera R. This model is like a 'regular' 996carrera but will have 345 bhp and is 10 mm lower than the 996 turbo.
18inch TurboWheels, sportseats standard and will cost Euro 125.090.
That is Euro 20.000 more than the 'regular' Carrera.

Sounds the same as a C2 with X51 and X74 packages - $20k is alot for those things - maybe there will be some other interesting things like specific paint schemes or a different wing, etc...

Right, sounds the same to me. Maybe Porsche Netherlands wants to boost X51 and X74 sales, who knows?

But honestly: I doubt that there will be a Carrera R, doesn't make sense to me. All the mentioned options are already available, so why put them in a special edition? Also we shouldn't forget that the all new GT3 is due to come around spring. A 996 "R" definetely doesn't make sense.

There is also 'carrera R' written on its butt ofcourse

New info + Photo

Pon Porsche Importer did this in cooperation with Porsche Stuttgart Zuffenhausen to present at the autoRAI.
It is a Basic 911 with different a knocksystem and modified cylinderheads, intakesystem, exhaust manifold and engine management. With this the power has increased to 345bhp.
The chassis is 10mm lower and there is a shorter and tighter suspension added. (stabilityframes with a larger diameter too)
It haves other sportexhaust, PSM, 18inch TurbolookII wheels and 10 cm lower sportseats than normal sportseats.
A Porsche HiFi soundsystem with digital emplifier is added to.There will be 10 to 15 models for sale.

we'll see it on the AutoRAI then.

Can't have the 911 Turbo chassis (I guess you mean the suspension, right?) for several reasons. It will be X74.

IF there will be a 996 Carrera "R", it will be a simple 996 with X74, X51 and the Porsche sport exhaust. So what's the deal?
Price tag maybe? How much is X74, X51 and the Porsche sport exhaust in the Netherlands, do you have prices?

Now this is not so new info but should remind you of something

:

345 HP

Sport Exhaust

X74 (30 mm sport suspension) is not mentioned because it is available as a Exclusive option on new cars only.

So I have to congratulate Porsche Netherlands for offering a mix of sporty options named "R". Funny.

At least the "R" badge can't be ordered yet. Probably a special option for the Netherlands.

To be honest: I hope dutch customers understand what the "R" is. It is no GT3 and no Turbo.

The pricetag is Euro 125.090
It is Euro 20.000 more expensive than the Carrera.
But we'll see if there will be something special on it wich they still keep a secret from us

(I don't think so but who knows)
Waiting won't take long. But however whatever, I will keep my 996Targa

They don't do "specials" for their biggest markets (US & Germany) and you think they do it for the market in NL? C'mon.

What do you actually expect if I may ask? A GT3 for the price of a 996?

You can upgrade the engine of your 996 Targa too, this is no problem. Same applies to the sport exhaust. Only X74 is a problem. If you want to have something more sporty, order a 996 C2 with 345 HP powerkit, 30 mm suspension and sport exhaust. This is the same stuff as the 996 "R" but probably for slightly more money. I'm sure that Porsche is pleased to hear how customers "fall" for the "R" letter in the name.
