What tires are you running on your GT2? Im having trouble..

finding PZero Rossos in 315/30 18 here in the US. This what I'm currently running on my X50(along with the GT2 wheelset.) Anyone using Michelin Pilot Sports? How do you like them? They are more expensive and weigh about 2 kg more at each corner. Thanks for any help.

The tyres get made in batches. Now is Michelin's turn.

Re: What tires are you running on your GT2? Im having trouble..

Not many GT2 found their way to customers with P-Zero Rossos. Most cars have been delivered with the Michelin Pilot Sport N0. Very good street tire, not so good track tire (when it gets very very hot, it looses grip). The Rosso is the better choice for the track but needs temperature to have a perfect grip.
BTW: there was a time when the Pilot Sport wasn't available in Germany. It is still very hard to get (for non-GT2 owners), same applies to the Rosso in GT2 size and N-classification.
If you're a GT2 owner, there is no real problem: Porsche always seems to have a few "spare" tires available. To get them, they ask for the VIN number.

    RC,

I a couple of months Michelin will have the Pilot Sport Cups available in 315/30-18 size.

I can attest to RC's comments about the Pilot Sports, as I have them on my C32. The tread pattern on wider section widths is a little different, but tire should have similar characteristics. On the average canyon road, you should have no problem with overheating unless you are going very very hard (with the high limits of the GT2, probably not the most advisable thing to do on public roads). On the other hand, if you like to light up your tires on the road, that could also pose a problem.

Question about the Pilot Sport Cups: As strictly a road tire, is this necessary? The increase in roadholding is probably only noticeable when you are driving past 8/10ths of the regular Pilot Sports. Is this a fair assumption? Right now I'm weighing my choices for my daily driver (grip vs. wear). I'm not entirely sure these tires are wise for road-going weekend cars either. Convince me :)

The Pilot Sport with N-classification (as on the GT2) has a completely different compound mixture than the standard Pilot Sport. Even the thread is slightly different. You can compare them to some point but they're not the same tires.

My wife's SLK 32 AMG has the Pilot Sport too.

    Thank you for the correction.

Really, I am getting close to needing new tires on my GT2 (13,000 Km in three months) and was going to go with the roossos, but maybe the sport cups will be out by then. The one thing I like about the Michelins sports (the OEM tires) is they protect your wheels from getting light scratches when parking.
