    Mercedes news

    Just talked to my friend from Daimler Chrysler,
    First of all, it seems I will go and pick up the S600 on saturday, it arrived in France this morning
    Secondly, we had a quick chat about MB in general,
    he admitted funnilly that MB just don't know how to make manual gearboxes.
    There will only be 500 SLR, no more.
    The new SLK is coming in 12 to 15 months, he has seen some of the design, it is apparently stunning!
    The rear of the SL combined with a front that looks a bit like the SLR, brilliant

    The S600 is a great car. German AMS will test it in two weeks against the BMW 760 Li. I'm pretty sure that it will do the 0-100 kph in around 5 seconds (maybe slightly below) and the 0-200 kph time even in around 14 seconds which puts it on the same level as the 996 Turbo with manual(!) gearbox. Impressive for such a limousine. Maybe you don't want to let your father drive it anymore as soon as you put your hands on it.

    in the latest issue of "auto motor sport" it says that AMG is currently modifying merc's V12 biturbo engine -- it will debut this year in the "CL 65 AMG" with more than 600 HP!!!!

    A guy at my dealer told me about a possible SL/CL/S 630 AMG with 560-600 HP. Rumor indicates that a final decision will be taken as soon as the SLR's power figure is official.

    A V12 with 800 Nm torque is a pretty interesting engine. I'd like to see that engine in a light weight, fixed roof SL special version with 1600 kg weight. WOW. Dream on, RC...

    if the tested s600 is not again one of the modified cars for press people with 550+ hp, i suppose...

    ~ 4.6 for 0-100 km/h
    ~ 15.7 for 0-200 km/h
    ~ 22.8 for 1000m

    that's all calculated (!) stuff, so it shouldn't be that wrong. the s600 will be somewhat slower than a 996 tt. don't worry folks, porsche is porsche...although the sl55 stays something irregular

    I hope that they will put this engine in the new ML55 or GST. I heard about this monster engine from AMG, and will be amazing...

    It never made sense to me that the S600 and the S55 have the same engine output, I know, not in the same way, but still, it's confusing for the client, AMG have always been the sporty version of mercs, they should aim higher, 500hp is a bit .... tame

    i wonder why they implement a 550 HP supercharged V8 engine into the McLaren SLR -- while the CL 63 AMG gets a biturbo V12 with more than 600 HP.

    i know that gordan murray doesn't like turbo, but he doesn't like supercharging either if i remember it right.

    and i am also aware that these are two completely different car concepts, but IMO the SLR target audience doesn't really care if this is a real sports car and the CL is not. carrera GT buyers would also be shocked if there's a special edition 996 GT2 coming out with MORE hp than their carrera GT, wouldn't they? i would

    This is why I mentioned the official introduction of the SLR. I think the SLR gets more than the predicted 560 HP.
