    Changes in PCM?

The US online Porsche Configurator shows a change in PCM. It is now PCM II, costs $100 less, has become option code P16 and may have a slightly smaller screen. The description in the Configurator is:

"Information and navigation system with a 5.8" screen with 12 button keypad. Twin-tuner, top-radio with integrated CD-ROM/Audio drive, GPS navigation module, on-board computer with simultaneous indicator of basic audio and navigation information in the dot-matrix display."

Does anyone else know anything about this? Has anything really changed?

    Re: Changes in PCM?

I don't know exactly what is the difference, but on European models, PCM is including the cell phone (GSM) whilst in the US it is not.

On my car, the code is PF2 and the price is US$ 2,730.

I'm waiting for a company to offer a chip to get the TV and plug a DVD player as well !!!! OK I won't watch TV while I'll be driving.... but I'm sure the kids will !!!!

    Re: Changes in PCM?

Back in September RC made note of a new PCM for 2003:

    http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=news&Number=3512&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

Maybe this is it and PAG is just now changing the option code. PF2 was the PCM code shown in my Cayenne order guide and it was priced at $2730. If the Configurator is correct this has now changed. There is no mention in RC's information of this becoming "PCM II", whatever that might mean.

    Re: Changes in PCM?

In Europe, the GSM phone option does not come as a standard option. You have to pay extra money for it!
The PCM 2 is actually the new PCM system (PCM 1 has been used up to MY 2002 on all Porsche models excl. the Cayenne of course) used on all Cayenne worldwide as far as I know. But I try to find out if there has been a change or not.

The TV option for the Cayenne's PCM system will be available for MY 2004 as far as I heard. However I'm not sure if it will be available for the US market.

    Re: Changes in PCM?

The US version of the Configurator is showing PCM as a selectable option on the Cayenne Turbo at the same $2,630 USD as the S. The German website, sporting a new, improved and slower Configurator, does not make this mistake and shows PCM as standard on the Turbo. For the S (German site) the PCM is not designated as "II", has option code PF1 and has this description:

I'm concluding that the Configurator cannot be trusted (I guess I already knew that). However, the fact that they are calling it PCM II and showing a new option code (on the US site) makes me think something is going on.

    Re: Changes in PCM?

RC is making (as usual) a good point. In the US, a built to spec Cayenne will be MY2004 even if it will be delivered in April or May 2003. On the other hand, "stock" cars which will hit the market in March will be MY2003.

So may be Porsche AG is taking the opportunity to introduce on the Cayenne in advance the PCM "MY2004" and name it PCM II.

As far as the TV is concerned, I'm sure for liability reasons, they won't sell it in the US. It's the same thing with the 996 Targa if I'm right. The remote control in the US doesn't allow to close the windows and the roof whilst in Europe it does... (yes, lawyers will kill this country... they are the cancer of this wonderful nation!!!!).

I owe and apologie, I thought the telephone was standard on the PCM in Europe. Actually, I think it doesn't make sense NOT to take it. It's so handy to slip the SIM card and off you go....
