Another classic gone

the lotus esprit will die in july 2003 (USA: early 2004) -- i always loved the car since first noticing it in the bond movies. a friend of mine actually owns a '90 turbo -- really has lots of soul and an extreme supercar look. although above 220 kph i got the feeling that the car is braking apart

i like the '99 esprit sport 350 as well, very nice rear wing.

Supposedly, the US version of the Elise will be

powered by a Toyota V6 - couldn't get the Rover 4 to pass emissions here. Will most likely be heavier and more powerful than older versions...

oh yes, the esprit's wedge shape was beautiful indeed...

may i present: my favorite all-time esprits!

1. original white esprit S1 (of "spy who loved me" fame) from 1977 with wolfrace alloys

2. the JPS special edition (after mario andretti won the F1 world champion title for lotus)

3. the sport 350 (i LOVE that rear wing -- and i usally do not like them!!)

It does have a wonderful shape to it. It's predecessor, the Europa had been one of my favorites. I had a chance to drive one once. It had something of the feeling of a large go-cart. Very fast responses. Incredibly cramped footwell.

I have always had a special place in my auto heart for Lotus (my first F1 love as a youth). As a teenager I tried to convince my father the buy me a Europa - the original with the Renualt engine. Next was a Elan coupe (used and most of it did not work but I did not care). The next was the Esprit - I was newly married and my wife had just told me I could not buy a "pink" 911 (I was just out of school with no job). But she did go with me (I now had a job) to look at an Esprit (this was before the Bond movie). The dealer was in a warehouse, the car was wonderful, but even I knew I could not afford. Now to modern times - a local dealer has one and I go look but alas I do not fit - I have to contend my self to a 911. BUT I have put a deposit down for an Elan.
