    Are Boxsters more popular in UK?

    Just noticed that quite a few of our British members seem to frequent the Boxster board (disproportionately to the 996/7 board). Was just curious if this is a coincidence or is there a cultural/environmental reason? I'm a fan of the new Boxster coupe, btw!

    Yes . Roads too crowded for PROPERLY fast cars and perhaps less Brits can afford a grown up Porsche. Me for one

    I understand about the crowded roads too (although early mornings in the mountains are pretty uncrowded here). And I certainly understand the financial issue - neither of my Porsches cost nearly as much as a new base Boxster. But, isn't England the land of Bentley, Aston-Martin, and Rolls-Royce?

    Well we assemble Rolls Royce from kits sent from BMW ( I understand from someone who has been to the RR "factory" at Goodwood that the number of Brits working there you can count on the fingers of one hand) Even the leather comes from German cows . Bentleys and Astons go from the factory to car transporters to the docks to ships to US of A. Have you seen the new DB9 up close and personal? It has to be the best looking best sounding car built. Ever.

    I get the impression that Brits don't suffer to the same extent from that "only the 911 is a real Porsche" snobbery thing as some markets do, so other models like the Boxster and 968 CS have been more readily accepted there for what they are: damn good sportscars!

    When the 911 was building its reputation as THE sportscar here in Germany and in other markets in the 60's and 70's, there was a larger choice of lower-priced locally-made sportscars and roadsters available on the UK market (Jaguar XKE, Austin Healey, Triumph, MG, TVR, Lotus, etc., etc.,). I don't think the 911 was such a force on the market there at that time, so still doesn't enjoy quite the same legendary status there as here.

    So the Boxster's sportscar credentials may be be looked upon there a little more objectively than in some other markets.
