    500bhp GT3 version of the Audi R8 announced.

    Audi have today announced a GT3 customer version of the R8 to be available from Autumn 2009. Power is quoted at 500bhp and it has already been shaken down by Frank Biela.

    We will publish a few more details on DR later today, but my first thought is.... will there be a road version? .

    Road version? NO, for now at least... BTW, it is RWD.

    Yep. RWD, six-speed sports sequential gearbox and a big wing..

    Looks like Audi will be campaigning it themselves in a few European races before making customer cars available in the autumn.

    They will participate in the FIA GT3 racing class for near-production cars?

    Or they will build cars for GT1 (like Corvette and Aston Martin) or GT2 (like RSR and 430GT)?

    Btw, this seems to be based on V10 version? With extended carbon panel and 2 spliters in front instead of three???

    Interesting to see Audi move into the GT classes. I wonder if this is sign that Porsche will move into LMP1.
    There are some rumors (form quite credible sources) circulating saying just that.

    Very good point, the press info from Audi doesn't actually mention which engine is fitted, only its power output..
