    Re: New Lotus "Eagle" unveiled

I am not cutting anyone slack including porsche, look at my comments on the panamera mule. If something is good it's good and if it's not it's not. Simple, no pc. Too much of that now-a-days. (but it's only my opinion, don't let it ruin your day.)

Conceived as the successor but not sold as the successor with a 50% price increase and the car it was supposed to replace still being built and marketed more heavily. (result of a power struggle back then, dr. fuhrmann etc) But I am happy with the out-performance.

I would like to see Lotus build something aa impressive as the espirit was. There is no reason why car companies especially exotics can't build something that make people stare in amazement, they start with a blank canvas and with materials and technology today compared to the 1980's they really hane NO excuse.

    Re: New Lotus "Eagle" unveiled

I am all for funded criticism.
But critizing and condemning something one has not seen nor driven ?

    Panamera , another prime example. It's a camo !!!
Not the real car. If the real car is not to your liking please by all means , by my guest and complain all you like.
But for a camo ?? So for you a camo needs to look good too ? Now that is news to me.

I don't need to drive a car to see that it's unattractive.

I can have sex with an ugly woman who happens to give bomb head and have gymnist bedroom skills, still doesn't negate the fact she's ugly and I wouldn't want to be seen with her in public.

    Lotus CEO responds :

Firstly I'd like to address the concerns that the car looks like the Elise/Exige platform. Where we were concerned, was with fulfilling our objective of recognisable Lotus DNA in a completely new platform. I would ask you to view the car in the flesh before you make any decision as I can assure you that it is absolutely beautiful, elegant with lush haunches and the treatment at the rear of the car (which is the view most people will have) is phenomenal with exquisite lines and at the same time it looks strong, very strong and aggressive. The car interior is stylish and modern, yet retaining a unique Lotus feel. The high quality finish will match up to the highest competition in the market and the ease of use and functionality are ground breaking, designed around the driver as all Lotus products are.

The development team have created, in the Eagle project, a unique car which results in a stunning package and I am exceedingly pleased with what they have achieved. The proportions of the vehicle exterior, whilst being much larger than the Elise footprint belie the 'quart into a pint pot' interior and many of the largest Esprit drivers will find the car very comfortable and still retain room in the back, yet the car retains the look of a real supercar with it's low, sleek lines. We've kept many of the best angles for people to see at the show next week including the 3/4 rear view along the lines of the vehicle which is simply stunning and extremely unique.

I personally drove the car just recently and I would be happy for any Esprit driver to drive it in the knowledge that the performance is very similar to the cars they drive at present. Let us not forget that the car is still in development, we will not begin production until the end of December and although the exterior design is as good as complete we still have to put the finishing touches to the overall package. The car is on target for release as stated and is bringing the company back to Colin's original vision for Lotus.

    I like it

    Re: New Lotus "Eagle" unveiled

It's looking surprisingly good on the "Eagle-Team" photo.

Let's hope, those numbers are not final.

    Re: New Lotus "Eagle" unveiled

Lotus have heritage and sound engineering. They could have been the British equivalent of Porsche. However, being British instead of German they didn't have the thoroughness required to build on their foundations. Horror stories of bad reliability and a wrong product range destroyed Lotus.

The Eagle to succeed it must be superb on all counts so as to gradually recover the marque's lost ground,in a period of 10 years. See how hard it is for Alfa Romeo to sell its greatly improved products after an absence of two decades at least.

Also, don't forget that younger people don't remember the golden days of Lotus F1, the Elans of the 60s and the Esprit of the 70s. For most consumers under 40, the name Lotus could be a brand of condoms.

    Re: New Lotus "Eagle" unveiled

Some more ps colors , it really is growing on me.
Not yet enough to buy but might, I have a soft spot for Lotus (am over 40 )
