Neat gear selector for the M-DCT transmission. On the right of the console switches for power settings (throttle response, "Electronic Damper Control" BMW's version of PASM, and for the brave Dynamic Stability Control off switch. Behind the gear selector the adjustment for gear change speed. To start, foot on the brake, press the start button. Engine burbles into life with a superb cultured growl. Snick the lever to the right and you're in automatic mode. drive off and the gearchanges are so smooth as to be imperceptible. A nice relaxing cossetting drive. Could be in a 335d. Then, press that little "M" button on the steering wheel. All the sport modes are engaged at once, fastest setting in the gearchange and throttle rsponses. You are now in manual mode, using the paddles behind the wheel. The car is now transformed. Everything becomes brutal, acceleration, gearchanges, suspension. The car behaves like a Can-Am racer, and sounds like one, too. You certainly don't notice the extra weight of that roof as the car hurls itself towards the horizon, a definite thump at each gear change up, and a brief ferocious bellow on downchanges.
