    Difficult to say, Darren. My car has a LSD which might further improve traction, so I'm not sure I can make a valid statement. Fact is: when I fully accelerate from standstill, the car runs like hell, no PSM light flashing, no traction problem, it just shoots away. The 996 Turbo always had a certain lag at the beginning, unless I was willing to burn my clutch.
    From 0-125 mph, the 997 Carrera S is as fast as a 996 Turbo with Tip. 0-80 mph? Well, the Carrera S Cab is also a bit heavier, so I think the Turbo will have a clear advantage, even in that speed range.

    Surprisingly, the 997 Carrera S need high rev to run fast, pretty similar to the GT3. Under 4000 rpm, there still is power but you need to get over 5000 rpm to let the beast scream. I love this setup a lot because it suits my shifting habits much better, especially when driving along deserted country roads.

    Along those lines, you also said that the S seems to have less torque in the low range than the base 997, but looking at the torque curves, the S has more torque overall than the base 997 and flatter/higher torque on the low range. Can you elaborate? Thanks.

    When I testdrove the Carrera (not "S"), it didn't feel less powerful below 4000 rpm compared to the Carrera S.
    But in the higher rev range and especially at speeds over 200 kph, the "S" runs like hell. I don't know why this happens but this has been my experience. It is pretty surprising how fast the "S" reaches 280-290 kph on the speedo. Maybe it is time for a testdrive compared to a 996 Turbo and GT3. Of course I don't expect to be at the same level or even faster but I'm curious. Maybe a clever power/torque combo at high rev and speed make the difference, just a cheap guess.

    RC, every writer comments about the overlapping instrument gauges being spread apart more on the 997. Does that mean you have to adjust the new tilting steering wheel higher (than it's fixed angle on the 996 ) to see the outer 2 gauges ?
