    PSM - I didn't know this

A friend took over the steering wheel the other day and was very impressed with the CTT08 (he's got himself a CS). Did you know that you get almost 1000RPM extra when you switch the PSM off? Also the car is even more responsive and gears up even later. I didn't, normally the car revs to approx 6500prm but with PSM off it refs to 7500rpm. She rev's so easy, very smooth and the power is immense !

I have now almost 4000km on the clock (6 weeks old ), what a car !!!

    Cheers,

    Mark

    Re: PSM - I didn't know this

It's fun driving her with PSM off ! wandering when I am going to regret it (smile)

    Any thoughts?

    Re: PSM - I didn't know this

on rennlist they swore that it cut turbo lag. i couldn't really feel it but i didn't do it a lot. i am going to give it a crack on the new beast.

i think it will kick in again if it senses real trouble.

i have to break another one in again - man it was hard the 1st time; i don't know if second will be easier?

    Re: PSM - I didn't know this

final one mark - isn't 7,500 rpm past the redline?

    Hi CPA4S,

I found 'breaking her in' (so to speak) not to difficult this time as there is plenty grunt available to 4000revs. I took a differnt approach though than the beemer. The X5 was driven in really easy and I hardly used any revs. Obviously I was cautious with the CTT but after 1000km I used SPORT and reguarily took her out for a drive through the mountains(fantastic). Only last week I (uhhh my good friend Bob) revved her to 7500RPM and I didn't even noticed (apart from being in a rocket). Many people say that the engines are run-in already (prior to delivery) and don't need nurturing but still I wouldn't recommend to rev her above 4000RPM for long times below 3000km (IMO)

You will love the drive (even break in) !!!!

Indeed it is, I have to confess that I didn't see the 7500rpm on the clock myself but it was mentioned. I'll try again over the weekend.

    Re: PSM - I didn't know this

I don't think they've changed the redline mark on the tach since inception. Beginning with the '05 CTT with Powerkit (like mine), if pushed hard, it will spool up to 7500 before shifting. Will do so with or without PSM on, but will do so more readily with PSM off. Turning off PSM changes a number of parameters regarding acceleration and shift points and, to a degree, helps overcome the dreaded hesitation issue. Since the drivetrain and ECU mapping in the '06 TurboS was reportedly identical to the Powerkit, I would assume the same would apply. I haven't driven an '08, but I could easily imagine the newer CTTs might well have some compromise of the mapping between the old CTT and CTTS. Are you guys sure that your '08 CTTs won't hit 7500 with PSM on, as well as off? BTW, if you really push it to the point where it thinks you are seriously in trouble, PSM will kick in, even when off.

    Re: PSM - I didn't know this

Sorry, was half asleep when I read this thread and typed the previous. My old '05 will hit almost 6800 when pushed fairly hard with PSM on, even though red-line on the tach is 6400. It will nudge 7000 rpm (not 7500) when pushed really hard with PSM off. If you are seeing 7500 on the tach, then P must have done something miraculous with that engine. BTW, where is red-line on the new tachometers?
