    Cabriolet Top wearing

    Anyone had this problem....my cab top is developing an area of excess wear at a point where it folds flat when closed. The fabric is starting to fray slightly already (2006 car). Wondering if applying a backing to roof at this spot to prevent this seam forming so much would help??
    Any thoughts appreciated.

    Spray with pure silicone spray? The kind used on fine leathers and fabrics? My theory is that the lubrication will _reduce_ chafe. Other than that I _think_ that's all that can be done. Be thankful you got a black top. (You _did_ get bk right?). Oh..., NEVER stow top when it's wet, not even for an hour.

    Your top will definitely shows lines after a couple years. I've had three Porsche cabriolets and its always this way. But it should not start to fray.

    To my understanding the cabs top should be replaced every 7 years. Is the top a warranty item??

    Hey 4Ssssss, what do you mean by "fray?" Fray sounds like threads are "blowing in the wind."

    "Chafe" might be a better word? If so, I _believe_ that is normal wear and tear. My 986S has chafe where the folds are and I barely drive it, much less with the top down.

    I'm fairly certain a few shots of silicone spray will slow the chafing process.

    Those creases are normal. I see them on everyone's 997 cabriolet. They'll be less apparant if you keep your top up when parked, but they're still something to live with.

    I'm on my second top for my 06 C2Scab. My first top was wearing excessively and early. It was replaced under a one time top replacement policy Porsche has. My second top is faring much better.

    Just lateral to rear window about 3cm long. Hard to see on photo though. Up close can see 1mm or so threads loose along crease like the knit is loosening. I'll try the silicone. Anyone ever tried backing this area with more fabric to keep from folding so sharply.

    Other than the driver side elastic band for the interior liner getting stuck on the outside gutter and the passenger side top missing the gutter entirely when closing, my top has had no problems besides some creasing when I left it closed one winter because I left the hard top on.
