    Facelift 997 - colour problems

    Hi guys,

    I'm just speccing my August build facelift PDK 997. My biggest problem is what colour to go for.

    I've had 6 911s and the previous colours have been 3x Bassalt with Black leather, 2x Artic Silver with Blue leather and 1x Midnight Blue with Blue leather. I'm just bored of the same colour combos.

    Just looking at a few of the alternatives I'm considering and I wanted some views. I seem to be hit on resale value regardless of what I do so I just want something different.

    Carrera white with Carrera red, never go wrong with than.

    Another vote for Ruby Red, but with black interior..



    But from your choices i'd have to go white with black interior

    i like british racing green with no metallic paint if you wanna have something out of the ordinary...
    by the way, its called carrAra white and not carrera...

    actually, I saw a cream white facelift convertible the other day and it looked very good as well!

    I like meteor grey with cocoa but, from your choices, I picked meteor grey with sand beige.

    I Agree 100% and more about the black interior. Ruby red is tempting; looks seductive like a "sensible" alternative to the flamboyant Guards Red. OTOH, I'd get MG over white.

    On a micro scale any color which makes you blend in with traffic or the roadway is good. The color of asphalt (MG or Slate Grey) is excellent for cop pacification; at least on a superstitious level. Yet close up these colors are very nice; can't possibly go wrong with them.

    By the way, are there any changes to the colour palette? I do know about the changes on the Special Colour palette only.

    highly persoanl, in the for what its worth dept...id go standard color to avoid being pissed after a long wait...im prejudiced but having had a basalt/boxster red 986 that was over the top good looking imo...id go basalt/carerra red and never look back....you wont see one on every corner guaranteed...congrats

    Of your choices, I'd mix them and take Meteor Gray with Carrera Red interior - that's a classic Porsche combo from way back...

    Ruby Red is nice but it clashes with the bright Gaurds red looking brake calipers...FUGLY....Grey with Beige interior is disgusting too.

    Was just looking at Meteor with Carrera Red interior. I think that is looking like a possibility.

    where did you see that option senator? Im thinking of meteor with red or meteor with black...... or gt silver with black or red.......

    My two cents: White is for GTs. Red's nice but not for the interior (OK for classic cars but big no no for today's cars).

    I'd choose Meteor Gray, but with black interior.
    Sand Beige is too light and prone to stains and scratches to show.

    Hallelujah, something we both can agree upon!!! I'm not totally opposed to white cars, but I agree wholeheartedly with MMD as white applies to sports-cars... That, and it just looks like a shapeless void going down the road, you lose all of the sexy lines and reflections that make the 997 so sensuous...

    My opinion for you??

    If you're feeling saucy and anti-establishment, go for the black with red

    If you're feeling more low-key and classy go for Meteor and Sand Beige, or even better, that Magnolia that's in another thread...

    Meteor and Terracotta is also a beauty, and kinda straddles the irreverent and conservative approaches...

    I concur with your agreement 69bn. HAHA.

    You bring up an excellent point here BTW, white does "wash out" the shadows so the car's voluptuousness is hard to see. Oh yeah, that also means white emphasizes black "kerfs" (gaps between panels) and apertures and etc... .



    Still, I would take a white car if it were a great deal or an excellent "collector" car, IOW, It's not a terrible color by any means.

    I agree guys except for white on the Lamborghini Gallardo or LP640. Not feminine at all. Just razor sharp

    On the Gallardo, there's Bianco Monocerus/Cygnus (don't know the correct name). On the LP640, there's Bianco Isis.

    But I also like Balloon White - which is a Lamborghini Ad Personam colour that is just amazing. Really razor sharp.

    What color??? I could not care less. Guess that's why I always go tripple black.
    All I care about is having plenty of time and road to drive it.
    PDK would not be my choice so you lost me right there.
    What color - Too Metro for me.

    It looks a bit like an Aston Martin/Bentley/Jaguar color to me.

    Would look good with black, gray, sand beige or natural brown leather.

    On classic cars, white with lots of chrome and a beautifully colored interior can look rich and elegant.. Then on other cars it can look Elvis or Liberace...

    But on modern cars, where the lines and profiles are far more subtle, you usually just get a Whirlpool appliance look...

    I'm giggling at those who are suggesting Senator go "Meteor and black", and other totally yawn-awful combos so he can be PRACTICAL... Judging from his prior choices, I'll give him props for having 1. great taste, and 2. a personality. Kudos for not walking into Baskin Robbins and ordering a single scoop of Vanilla every damn time....

    BTW, scratches on black are far more visible, under the black dye is a lighter-colored hide, which once scratched into, screams back at you. Same goes for exteriors. I've got many cars with black interiors, and they truly are more annoying to me with respect to looking clean, as they show every little scratch, they amplify the sight of dust, every greasy smear and fingerprint, etc... It's not that much different for interiors than it is for exteriors, black shows EVERYTHING.

    As for long-term grime and discoloration on light-colored surfaces... You guys are just grungy! ... Imagine how FILTHY your black interiors must be, if in the past you've lost the battle against a light colored interior, where the dirt shows you right where it's at the moment it starts to accumulate, making the cleaning an obvious-to-anyone-but-the-blind task...
