reginos:I love the McLaren design immensely more than the Italian supercar styling.
The 720S and the 570GT are superb.
In real life the P1 is extremely impressive too.
I don't know, McLaren has a different (flowing lines) design but I still like Italian sportscars (Ferrari/Lambo) a lot. The interiors are also very nice. McLaren clearly wins in the performance category but Ferrari is at least trying (with the Pista, way too expensive though). Porsche? Well...no comment. Lamborghini? It is time for them to wake up. The Huracan Performante is an amazing car, no question but power-wise not even close to the 720S at almost the same price (in Germany).

Problem of NA vs. turbo, no?
We're at the point where you can be the fastest or just sound like you're the fastest.
The secret of life is to admire without desiring.

I don't know, I think that it isn't a huge problem to bump power on n/a engines, it is just a matter of cost and certification standards and of course engine displacement (I don't see a problem here though, it doesn't matter if a V10 engine has 5.2 l or 5.8 l ) Probably easier to do emissions "tricks" with turbo charged engines.
Also, why do car manufacturers not go the supercharger route? A friend of mine drove the MTM R8 and said that the car felt almost n/a to him (he owns a Huracan). Also this tuning seems to be pretty reliable, there are tons of supercharged Huracan and R8 around the world, some driven hard and no major issues. Just an example... Why always bi-turbo? Same goes to the mild hybridization in new cars: Why do they have to be turbo charged?

Superchargers are not very fuel efficient as they take the power from the crankshaft if Im not mistaken while turbocharging can be even more so than NA, so with today's legislation turbocharging makes more sense. Also turbocharging give more torque and at lower revs since they spool spool independant of the engine revs as opposed to the supercharger.

The technology can certainly be improved, especially now with the 48V mild hybridization.
Turbo chargers are still a pain in the ass, the only modern bi-turbo charged sportscar providing a halfway decent throttle response is the 488 (don't know if Ferrari improved throttle response further with the Pista). Even the excellent 991.2 Turbo S sucks, won't even start with McLaren or AMG.

Hybrid would be best I agree, best of both works, increased horsepower with instant Max torque while conserving NA character and noise and very fuel efficient. Only downside is the extra weight and cost which I'm sure will improve as tech advances.
For me is about quality over quantity, I don't care if the R8/Huracan engine is 100 down on HP vs turbocharged rivals, it's the quality of the HP (engine reving character and response, and sound) compensates many times over the fractional differences in acceleration in straight line, it's not like it's going to make a difference in a mountain road. Unfortunately I'm afraid that eventually these engines will also disappear, so hoping the hybrid tech will fill that void.

Somehow, Porsche ages better than Ferrari (in the medium term): the 991 turbo s and the 488 will both be replaced by a new model within 18 months or so. However, driving a turbo s still feels fine to me. But who would like to own a 488 these days? The car feels very old and also the performance seems to be well below what we thought it would be. The turbo s just delivers - until the day the replacement is available. The 720s is the best offer in terms of performance.

I have to disagree on this one The 488 is hardly any different than 720s or turbo s. Differences are noticeable but very, very small. A Turbo is a Turbo
BjoernB:I disagree - the 488 felt the least potent even if numbers are close - I must admit I only had 45 min or so in the 488 but no comparison to the 720s. The ESP set up of the 720s is magical.
Of course, you are right. The 720s feels noticeably stronger than 488 and turbo s. My comment was just about throttle response Or did you feel a major difference in this regard?

I think the response issue with the 720S is more related to the gear box software and shifting from first to second. This gives the impression of turbo lag.

Sound-wise, the 488 GTB is worlds ahead of the 991.2 Turbo S. Throttle response-wise, the 488 GTB is ahead of the 991.2 Turbo S, very good setup. Design-wise, the 991.2 Turbo S isn't even in the same league. Interior-wise, same thing, the Porsche isn't even in the same league as the Ferrari. As a daily driver, the Porsche wins by a huge margin though but as a weekend fun car, I would always prefer the 488.

Rossi:BjoernB:no I cannot say but Ferrari is surely known for it's good throttle response
But compare this to a R8...
Compared to the R8, the 488 clearly looses. No surprise here, even if the 488 throttle response is the best in the market in my opinion (from my personal experience). Same goes to sound, best sounding bi-turbo engine on the market.

The above post was on throttle response... I would not consider a 488 any longer. It is soon to be replaced and it also feels old, primarily as the performance is so low compared to what was thought at the beginning. Lap times are not so good. And customer cars are kind of underperforming. If one likes a more special design the 720s is the far better product, I feel. The turbo s is a turbo - it does not excel because it is new. It just delivers - all the time.

The 600 LT will be for sure the best-performing in its segment, as always with Mc Laren.
I would love to drive a 600 LT at my trackdays.
But what holds me up buying a McL is the huge depreciation of their models including the limited series like the 675 LT: In Germany it is about 100K EUR value loss that you face with the 675 LT after 2 years of ownership.
I will therefore wait 1-2 years and buy a second hand 600 LT...

Depreciation is certainly a problem but also a chance for second hand market buyers.
