    997 facelift-PDK and power info

    997 345ps
    997S 385ps

    AWD models available from 10/2008.

PDK ordering code 250. Will PDK be available to first costumer cars remains a mystery....?
PDK is tuned a la DSG according to my source, NOT a la M-DKG in new M3. Is it good or bad is up to you to decide.

997 Turbo facelift? Current answer is NO facelift till 2010(997 Turbo S)...

Re: 997 facelift-PDK and power info

Damn! Another 3.8% and we would have had a nice round 400PS for the S.
Oh well, it'll come in the next 3 face lifts!

The delay to launch PDK will be a matter of a few months in which case the tiptronic will be dropped or it is something for the future?
Also what is the difference between DSG and the BMW system?
Gearchanges will be also possible through the stick or only through the buttons?

im wondering which 911 would be faster if 997s with x51 package race against face-lifted 997s.

Re: 997 facelift-PDK and power info

    PDK has double clutch.

BMWs DSG is a elektrohydraulical switch system on a manual tranni. Same like in Ferrari, Lambo, etc.

So - kind a big difference between the technologies

Kreso was talking about the M-DKG, or M-DCT in english, which is a double-clutch gearbox. The previous gearbox, as found in the M5, M6 and E46 M3 is called the SMG.

I assume that Kreso means that it will be more comfort oriented than sport, but he'll have to clarify that himself.

    Lars,

    YOU are WRONG.

BMW M-DKG(M-DoppelKupllunggetribe) is double-clutch gearbox as well. Much more advanced then current 6speed S-Tronic in VAG cars. New 7speed S-Tronic that Audi will use in S4/S5 models from autumn 2008 is almost as advanced...

Regarding drive feeling we need to see first drive impressions about PDK. BUT, according to my info system is tuned to pleased TIP costumers.

Also, it seems that there is NO TIP option for facelifted 997/997S models, only manual and PDK.

Re: 997 facelift-PDK and power info

    Correct.

New PDK is tuned to mimic TIP and good sequential manual at the same time. At least according to some internal P info...

BUT, my personal opinion is that as good as any DSG system could be it CAN NOT mimic good autobox and sequential manual equally good. There is excellent article about various gearbox technology in latest EVO, read it. They compared the best current DSG, manual, sequential manual and Autobox. Results? Read the article... BUT, it seems that Jag XKR autobox is almost as good as Nissan GT-R DSG... Supriese, supriese...

I expect the PDK to be a version of the 7speed S-Tronic, so that should be the reason for not appearing sooner than autumn 2008.

X51 will sort that out for you, if not even take you to GT3 territory!

Re: 997 facelift-PDK and power info

Regarding the Turbo i have the SAME infos. No new turbo until 2010.

Regarding the 997 FL i can tell you that first models will be at Porsche Dealers in July. They will be only 2WD.

AWD will be available from November.

The first FL in the showrooms will have PDK FOR SURE!

I suppose there will be different possible settings, no ? Comfort, sport, track ???

I will be the first or second to get a facelifted 997 C2S at my dealer... Deceiding to get PDK or not will be a nightmare

    Exactly my thinking.

The PDK is supposed to replace the TIP and be more sporty, thus two settings... If not, yet another major disappointment for the 997.

It would make sense the TT FL comes out only in 2010, but at least rear LED and PCM3 have to show up in the TT for MY09. If not, what are they really thinking With all the competition coming out, TT sales would be going south...

Thanks for the info. Am I correct to assume that they wont be any power increase before 2010 for the Turbo?

PCM wise, will the 2009 Turbo receive the upgrades of the 997FL?

When will the Turbo receive the PDK?

Re: 997 facelift-PDK and power info

In short AFAIK NO-answer to all your questions.

That I was also told by my dealer. Two dealer, same info: seems to be correct then

Re: 997 facelift-PDK and power info

    Pretty much I guess...

Just remember Porsche silently improved 997 Turbo. First car(coupe) did 1:13,7min on Hockenheim(Michelin Sport PS2) and then Sport Auto tested Cabrio which achived 1:13,1min(also Pilot PS2). According to my source current 997 Turbo Coupe(manual, PCCBs, LSD and Cups) is capable to do Ring in 7.50-7.48min, depending on conditions(Horst driving, not Rohrl)...

Re: 997 facelift-PDK and power info

I am a left leg amputee so I can not push a clutch and I drive a Tip 997S. I am an instructor for Chin Motorsports and working on my PCA Instructors status. So you can see I am a track junkie! Sebring is my home track.

Will PDK rev match downshifts like the Ferrari and Audi paddle shift transmissions do?

I have to get out of my Tiptronic car because downshifts are way too slow and the 5 speed gearing of the current Tiptronic is too long of gearing for track use.

Mike - you'll be in good shape with PDK. It will rev-match downshifts and you'll gain two ratios (7 speed)

Sounds good and reasonable.... 385 Porsche horses are enough to blast away the main competition.

I guess turbo will then be done early 2009 (like May?).... would make sense imo.

Re: 997 facelift-PDK and power info

    Thanks kreso for the infos

Re: 997 facelift-PDK and power info

also dont know when the turbo facelift is coming out but we definately see them driving around here every once in a while. just recently saw a dark blue one, with black wheels and the LEDs...looked good!

Re: 997 facelift-PDK and power info

    turbos not before than 2010

Re: 997 facelift-PDK and power info

I hope rennteamers will not be disapointed by the PDK because, if this double clutch system is like the DSG from Audi, there will be near no motor brake. That is the reason why i don't like to drive my wife's Audi A3 sportback 3.2 DSG.
    Carlos

Re: 997 facelift-PDK and power info

I think 385 to be too less relative to competition's rate of power growing but horses are most of the times not everything. Let's see how the car will perform once tested the first time

Re: 997 facelift-PDK and power info

It will be fast. Do not have any doubt about that...

    Is 4.5s for 0-100km/h OK?

Other good news(needs to be confirmed!) is that LSD will be an separate option.

Re: 997 facelift-PDK and power info

A 385hp S with PDK could be around 4.5 sec in 0-100kmh, and 300kmh top speed?

Re: 997 facelift-PDK and power info

    385 is enough HP IMHO...

I wonder if X51 that will bring it to 400+ HP will necessitate 4wd for daily, all weather usage. IMO GT3 (2wd, 400+) is not really an all year round car unless you live in a very dry part of the world.

Hey Sci, It's okay..., everything will be fine..., take it easy buddy..., I hope you feel better soon. We'll all be there for you when you need us. When you are ready, we can discuss the concept of a Porsche with fewer than 500 hp is underpowered for a road car.

    (just kidding)
