Test drove the R8 this weekend
Had a test drive in a white R8 with carbon side blades this weekend. It was a manual and had all the options except for the CCB's.
Upon entering the car the cockpit was very roomy. The seats were extremely comfortable, the buttons and dial were easily within reach on the center console. Visibility in general was all very good.
The clutch was also vastly improved compared to my old RS4 - it was much lighter and responded better. The gearbox at first glance immediately reminded me of a Lambo or Ferrari and the "stencil" was a lovely sight to see in an Audi.
The gearbox is really smooth and I love the sound it makes upon every shift, like a gun reloading I didn't really like the rough strips for grip on the gear knob, but that is just personal preference.
The steering is very light and the response from the engine is also very sharp. It's amazing that is can feel so much faster than my old RS4 although it shares the same engine. Maybe it is placebo effect it has of being much lower.
Around the turns the car feels very planted and I absolutely love the magnetic suspension. The car has almost no body roll! Only downside is the exhaust note, it is far too soft (although I realise Audi designed this as an everyday GT). That can easily be remedied by something aftermarket.
In general I would give the car a 8/10 and left me with a great experience! I can't wait until the V10 version comes out, sign me up
