    NO TURBO IN '09?

Heard a rumor today that Porsche might not build an '09 Turbo! Is there any truth to that? If so, why? I hear they are having trouble with the DFI.....

    Re: NO TURBO IN '09?

I wouldn't put too much faith in whoever told you that rumor.

    Re: NO TURBO IN '09?

Sounds like something a dealer would tell you to get you to buy an 08...

I have been told the same...

... or at least, "They might not even make the Turbo in 2009." Always from dealers with 2008 allocation remaining. The ones without 2008's are all happy to speculate on how much better the 2009's will be. They gotta sell cars and it is a tough job.

Re: I have been told the same...

I thought the Turbo is a guaranteed seller; i.e. dealers could sell twice as many if they could get them. Is this true?

Yea, heard that one too... One told me they can get $50K over invoice. Then why are some dealers advertising $5K off any 997TT in stock? The economy stinks and there is some pretty good competition out there. I'm still buying one, just not the sales BS that goes along with it.

Disclaimer: Not all dealers are bad. Some are well-informed and a pleasure to deal with. It is the slimy minority that sullies the reputations of the majority.

I dunno 'bout that; are they used cars? Has anybody _actually_seen_ a brand new Turbo sitting there waiting for a buyer more than a few days? Don't let internet listings of dealer inventory fool you.

You're doing your best to report what you hear sparkhill (not saying you're wrong) but maybe we need a diligent investigative journalist to go out and untangle hard facts.

There's just so few of TTs compared to NA car AND a "different" kind of buyer (not me) supposedly buys the Turbo. One who just buys what he wants (doesn't shop around).

    I dunno..., just guessing.

Would be nice if some of those lucky bargain TT buyers reported in on Rennteam.

It was posted a while back Herb Chambers in Boston. I assumed they were all new, but none were what I was looking for so I did not look very closely. Here is the Inventory

In California I have found three June completion/July delivery coupes that were completely changeable as of two days ago - all at MSRP.

Re: I have been told the same...

I actually went to herb chambers and they are selling their new in stock TT's (all good colors and nicely optioned, all manual) for 5k off...When they had their 1 allocation left they told me that i would get at least a few thousand off of that if I took it...Unfortunately when I called to give them my deposit they said that they sold their allocation the night before. They are looking to trade for an allocation for me now.

I also went to another dealer that had a macadamia one in stock and i was offered 10k off msrp...I don't think that any dealers will offer a discount on the 09 for at least the first 5 or 6 months but after that I think that they will discount those a few thousand as well...

Maybe its an east coast thing...the weather here is only nice 6 months out of the year and you don't see as many TT's here on the road.

Re: I have been told the same...

Funny. I know someone personally with an '09 allocation and build slot now. They may cut coupe production further so they can produce more cabs, and more profit.

I asked a friend of mine that works in upper level management at PCNA, and he said there was no truth to this rumor.

Does he have an actual build slot or is he on the waiting list. I am on a waiting list for an 09 and have not heard of anyone in the US with an 09 build slot.

I think that should read: no turbo FACELIFT in 2009

I hope you are right Alex..., but..., at least as far as the body/cosmetics are concerned, the facelift is soooooo cheap and easy for Porsche to build parts for and slap them on the new cars. Why would they NOT do it on the TT?

All depends on where one is located, Here in Canada, where Porsche shortchange our allocations, Turbos are always a hot item, NEVER will there be any discount.

In the US it's also about location, maybe a dealer in CA is asking 50k over MSRP but in the next state over in Oregon another dealer is having trouble moving one at 5k discount.

Maybe it's time for Porsche to fix the allocation problems, audit all the US dealers and see which one is not doing well and act accordingly, possibly diverting more of the US cars to Canada where we are still snapping them up like hot cakes as we don't have a economy that's going down the drain.

Yes, build slot, early '09 model year, confirmed. I'm sure many larger dealers have some idea of their allocation, and a 'list' as well, and I'm also sure this is subject to change as Porsche maneuvers its allocation process. But yes, confirmed build slot.

Suggestion: call the biggest dealer in your area, even if it's a few hundred miles out. Smaller dealers can't trade Turbos: period (they have no built or not-built TTs to trade).

Anyway ask your big dealer to find you a new car "on __A__ lot" somewhere. Of course give them a few of your preferences. My bet is _eventually_, but a lot sooner than '09, they'll find a car that you like.

Unless very crazy with money or personality, "everybody" basically orders the "same" options.

Just an idea... . Oh, not just an idea ;it worked for me.

I know of someone with a confirmed build slot for a 2009 Turbo Cab, but have been repeatedly told that the 2009 Coupes have not been allocated. Of course, dealers have told me this so take it all with a grain of salt.

So when can you expect actual delivery if all goes well, sparkhill? How far out are these cars?

Supposedly somebody is getting a July completion Cab. I am getting a Coupe and it sounds like August completion/September delivery is the best case scenario but it could be quite a bit longer too. It depends on where I fall in the allocations and whether or not I am being told the truth. Time will tell.

Sept? Not toooo bad of a wait. At least NV (and the SW) is good for driving in fall and winter, right?

BTW, if your dealer is giving you ANY sht just find another one in your area.

Re: I have been told the same...

Are they telling you when you can place the order and spec it out?

Yea, my local dealer gave me loads of [beep]. I have moved on to one in California who is used to dealing with Reno customers who have been treated like [beep] by the local dealer. It is not just Porsche either -same thing with the Audi, BMW, and Range Rover dealers.

I was told I could spec a 2009 997TT cab or Cayenne Turbo but not a 2009 coupe. This was at another dealer and it is possible the salesman was full of [beep] because he knew I only wanted a coupe. He may have been confused on the Cayenne too because the GTS is available as a 2009 already. Anyway, I am done calling around and I will just stick with my California dealer. I'll post whenever they call letting me know they have an allocation for me.

Re: I have been told the same...

You guys notice that the original poster hasn't said anything since then. I wonder what he's thinking now.

Oh I am sure they will.

My best guess: it's the Direct Injection technology is causing the delay. They are probably changing to a DI Turbo charged Carrera engine and need some time to get it right. No more GT1 derived engines. Out about MY2010. Turbo S MY2012.

    ...all speculation mind you...

Re: I have been told the same...

    I think I'm being "sold" an '08!

Re: I have been told the same...

My dealer also told me he heard a RUMOR that 08 would be the last Turbo until the 99?. No reason to lie to me as already purchased my 08 and have been a customer there since 1979 (about a dozen Porsches). He did emphasize RUMOR and said the forum people usually know things before the dealers hear it officially.

Re: I have been told the same...

I call BS on the above claim.
