Still mulling over color options

So found out that we would have to wait a year and a half (this according to Porsche Germany) to get a paint to sample of the color that the wife and I decided on so its back to the drawing board...

The finalists are still midnight blue, slate gray, and now atlas gray...

The wife wasn't really feeling the slate(although I like it very much)

Only thing that the car HAS to have (as most of you know) is the cocoa interior...

I know how many feel about the midnight and cocoa going together or not going together but we are having a hard time imagining it...

My question is has anyone seen the atlas in person or have one? It looks almost black in most pictures that I have seen but I think I saw one a while back and remember it almost changing colors in the sunlight to a blue-ish type tone...For those who have one or seen one would you recommend it. Or can shed some light on the color?

Sorry for the OCD and the barrage of color questions, I cant even think of when i had ever been so confused over something.(now I know what my wife feels like every time she goes shopping)

Kamal, I was under the impression that slate grey was to be discontinued for '09 or at least that's what I've been led to believe.

Here are a few pictures:

Midnight blue under the sun

Under the shade on a cloudy day

Atlas grey is a very dark shade of grey with a hint of purple in it. Looks elegant under direct sunlight but appears dark grey/black on a cloudy day

Black, Midnight and Atlas

Meteor, Cobalt and Atlas

I've seen Atlas, Slate and Meteor in person and of the three, Meteor is without a doubt my favorite.

I'd say that it's a bad choice going with Cocoa with Midnight or Atlas but of course that's my opinion. This is your car so the color choices all comes down to you and your wife. I'm just trying to help you as much as I can.

Yeah, Meteor is one of the best colours for a TT (with Silver GT like mine)

Yes, slate grey is discontinued next month, so if you want it, you've got to hurry up. Anyway if your wife doesn't like it, don't get it. A car color is not worth the nagging...

Cocoa will work with Meteor. In fact any color works with Meteor, it's a very neutral color. But I think Meteor is too dull, I prefer richer, more complex colors.

I love Atlas Grey. Cocoa is not the best match with Atlas but I think it's OK.

Get Atlas Grey for drama.

If you want to be less noticed (less flashy) and cleaner-looking-longer get Meteor Grey.

In my less-is-more opinion get BLACK interior: downplays extremely bizzy design/styling of 997 interior.

IT'S EASY! I personally guarantee that you will "forever" looooove your car even if you get it with some of your second- or third-choice options.

imo...just go meteor/coccoa and be done. it will look great no guessing or orderers remorse in the waiting process ...atlas is to blue to work with coccoa ... cobalt is great but not with brownish coccoa

If it can help seal the deal, Slate and Atlas are "special" metallic colors and add a few months to the build process (not to mention $2,500).

Meteor is a standard metallic color and does not that those penalties.

I saw an Atlas grey with sea blue interior really looked like a jewel almost too pretty for a sports car!

I love cocoa interior, I think slate, GT silver or meteor looks stunning with it. Midnight blue would work too but not so much as a silverish color IMHO and for some reason thats a color I would personally never order.

Atlas works really well too.

Also if I were to order cocoa which BTW my next porsche will be I would go with every single detail of the interior done in full leather.

I had a 2006 C2S > > Atlas with 2 tone black and gray. I too liked cocoa, but felt it did not go well with the bluish/purplish gray Atlas. Cocoa with slate is outstanding, but I would not recommend cocoa with Atlas. Atlas is nice with midnight blue too.

Are U sure is 18 month wait for color to sample?
You better try other dealer and asked again, I remeber see other members talk about than in US is 6 month extra, just like me in HK.

Paint to sample is a 6-month delay, but the order must be in in February at the latest.
Since he missed the deadline by a month, he must wait until next year, plus 6 months.

Next year is only 6 months away so wouldn't the wait be about 12 months assuming getting an early allocation?

I suspect they're trying to get as many facelifted models out the door as possible. Paint-to-sample slows down the manufacturing process so it's out of question until all FL launch cars have been painted.

According to Porsche in Germany (called exclusive dept number from website), I would have to wait until the 09 model year is out, then they would offer color to sample 3-4 months after that(which puts me at dec/jan)...Then 6 month wait from there(assuming that my color is one that they could paint)...She told me to expect a delivered car by June or July of 09.

So the wife and I finally decided on Atlas Gray and Cocoa...Now I am stuck searching for another build date

Dealer had a June for July but sold it while we were making up our minds, so they are looking for another one for me...If they don't find one ill be on the wait list for an 09.

Thanks everyone, it deff made my decision process easier with all the quick replies and pics...Ill post the specs as soon as I get my build date.

My bet is you'll get a build slot pretty quickly. I imagine lots of guys come to their $ense$ - NOT anyone here on Rennteam! - while on waiting lists and drop out.

Congratulations on finishing step one!

How about Cobalt with Terracotta/Black interior? I think I would have preferred floor mats in the same colour as the carpet.

I actually found myself liking this combination more than I thought although I think the black mats provides a nice contrast just as the dashboard does.

Yeah, that combination is the best I've seen with those two interior colors.
