    IPD Plenum horsepower claims

Found on another forum a claim that IDP has developed a plenum replacement for the 997TT that increases horsepower by 40. For those knowledgeable in this area is such a claim to be taken seriously. The price is $1100.00.

    Re: IPD Plenum horsepower claims

I can believe it reduces turbulence and may lead to some power increases. 40hp though would require another .1 bar of boost or more to be developed, which is unlikely.

    Re: IPD Plenum horsepower claims

Eugene, I thought it might have been optimistic. Do you have any sense for what this type of mod will acheive. I seem to remember you mentioning the poor design of the original plenum and suspect you would have an idea. Thanks for replying.

    Re: IPD Plenum horsepower claims

I do think the stock plenum design is suboptimal, but in a boosted car the effect may be less important than on a naturally aspirated car. I think for $1k it would be worth a try.

    Re: IPD Plenum horsepower claims

    40HP is too optimistic.

    Re: IPD Plenum horsepower claims

It was 40HP, actually 43HP. But the 43HP additional HP w/ the plenum was the # on a car w/ other Mod's. Which mods I'm still trying to get an answer on. Also trying to find out what the HP/trq/ #'s are w/ just the plenum on a stock car. But even if it only produces half that it's still well worth the price. I'm this || close to buying one... Wow...

    Re: IPD Plenum horsepower claims

Let's even say 25 H.P., that is well worth a $1000 to me plus $300 for installation.

At 25HP (being conservative) for the plenum + 20HP for an exhaust, so approx. 520HP

Having 500+HP sounds so much better doesn't it?

Did you buy yours yet? If not maybe we can get a better price by ordering 2/ or more? RSS was advertising a "Holiday Special" for the plenum on Sale for $995 maybe they'll still honor it?

    Re: IPD Plenum horsepower claims

Stradle: I went to their shop as I live close by and I met Greg in person. He offered me $995 for the part and $300 to install. I looked at one installed and looked awsome, you can't even tell. The dealer told me if they link any problems to it the warranty will remain intact. I have not done the exhaust yet. Greg will sell me Cargraphics for $4500 + installation.

Just got off the phone w/ Greg, ordered the Plenum. You can't go wrong w/ the Cargraphic, it was between Cargraphic, a couple others & the Tubi for me. I went w/ the Tubi which you can get for that same price.

Congrat my friend so now you have the tubi + plenum May I ask what you paid for the plenum. Greg offered to pick up my car personally and do all the work and return it to my house. I am not sure if I will do the plenum and exhaust together or do one at the time Did you change your wheels too?

    You have a PM.

Yeah, Tubi + IPD Air Intake Plenum. Yes, bought Champion's RS171's (Painted Black), black center caps w/ larger Gold Crest. Very similiar to :

    Re: IPD Plenum horsepower claims

Here's a pic I took (bad pic I know) of my wheels/they're REALLY aggressive in person w/ a huge, deep dive in the center.

    Re: IPD Plenum horsepower claims

    Very nice for $5K+

    Re: IPD Plenum horsepower claims

Thye only way to test if this thing produces Porsche style hp is to test on an engine dyno the same way Porsche does -chassis dynos are just too variable !
Look at the "before" power curve on the Mustang dyno plot above, the power tails off at ~5700. Now compare to the curve obtained by RS Tuning in the pre tune tests done on their engine dyno, th epower does not strat tailing off until after 6200rpm
What is interesting is that Cargraphic are marketing these plenums, with the power gains marked as TBA, so maybe we will see some real engine dyno testing done after all - any bets on how much Porsche hp they are going to produce ?

From what I understand the Plenum has been making 30+HP on stock 996 Turbo's "all-day" & should make at least that on the 997 Turbo.

If I had to guess - I'd be conservative and stick w/ that 30HP #.

    Re: IPD Plenum horsepower claims

Hey for a $1000 you can't go wrong and you will have some gains no matter what

18 H.P. Gain at the wheel for the 997S is pretty good. This translates to 25-30 H.P. at the crank perhaps. The article says 11 H.P. gain for the Cargraphic exhuast at the wheel.

How many horsepower do you think you get with your Tubi?

    Around 30 Crank HP..

    Re: IPD Plenum horsepower claims

So you probably get 15-18 at the wheel and at least 25 H.P. for the plenum.

    Re: IPD Plenum horsepower claims

What worries me is the support from RSS. THEY started the thread on another forum on 12/4/08 with a "special price" and some other information. There were MANY requests for more information over a six week period. In spite of the potential for many sales there have been NO responses from them to date. I am a firm believer that if it too good to be true, then it probably is. This almost seems to fall into that catagory, Not sure if it is proper to put a link from one forum in another, but here it is:

If this is not "proper" - my apologies to Rennteam.

I agree and if I had not been to the shop and met with the people in person I would have been some what skeptical. But I look at this way; It's inexpensive, it looks really nice installed, the engine compartment looks stock and there is definitely some H.P. gain

And for those reasons I'll probably end up with one.

    Re: IPD Plenum horsepower claims

The following statement is from RSS. They tested a 997TT with the plenum, software and exhaust and saw a difference of 43 H.P. at the wheel which translates to about 65+ H.P.at the crank. So without the ECU (just the Plenum and exhaust)if I get 20 additional H.P. at the wheel I will be happy:

    Greetings Once Again 6 Speeders,

Below you will find the latest dyno results with the 997 TT IPD Plenum installed. These initial performance gains have been very promising. Please keep in mind that these dyno figures were performed with the car in Sport Mode and the car is equipped with after market exhaust and software. These horsepower gains are even more impressive when you consider that HP gains become harder to find and more expensive as you climb the proverbial "Performance Ladder". We should have new dyno results that compare stock versus plenum very soon. Once again production of these new Turbo plenum should begin next month. Stay tuned for availability.

Please stop asking, "Why doesn't Porsche do this themselves?" We're not Porsche and we don't know. Please call them directly and let us know what they have to say regarding the product/design. All we know is that all of the plenums work great, produce the best bang for the buck power gains and give you genuine "Seat of the pants performance".

    Re: IPD Plenum horsepower claims

Since they seem to sell almost exclusively RS Tuning packages now days I asked Cargraphic if they have got RS to properly test these plenums on their engine dyno. Here is the answer:
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN CARGRAPHIC PRODUCTS
WE HAVE DONE SOME TESTING WITH RS-TUNING ON A FEW PLENUMS
AND FOUND AN OVERALL PEAK POWER INCREASE OF 9-14 PS AND A TORQUE INCREASE OF 8-12 NM
THIS WAS ALWAYS USING THEM ON TOP OF OUR EXISTING POWERKITS

WE HAVE UP TO DATE NOT DONE ANY TESTING WITH THE PLENUMS ALONE
BUT WILL DO SO TOGETHER WITH RS-TUNING WHEN THE ENGINES COME AVAILABLE.

So 9-14PS is not quite your 40hp but still definately worthwhile.
I am still not 100% convinced since a friend got a recent quote from RS for a 598hp 997tt package and the plenum was not mentioned - this may just be RS being secretive however ! I will try and investigate further although RS will not usually share details of their methods or hardware
