    997 FACELIFT

i kinda made it look sketchy.. but i have reasons to believe that the LED brake lights will be like a square a la audi TT and R8... inside i think they'll keep their white unit housing the backup lights (white) and side indicators (yellow when engaded, but white looking) also the strip could go along the top line of the light unit over the middle... this will give the car a wider look, and since the strip is higher, will make it look more sporty (ie. strip is at a bigger angle a la CGT lights!)

    what you think guys?

    Re: 997 FACELIFT

IMO, there's no way that red reflector strip will reappear in the 997. Too expensive (probably) and no need to make _glaring_ changes since all they want to do is twiddle around just a bit; enough to create a little "gotta have the new Porsche" buzz.

The design concept of a continuous red panel worked with the SC because it unified the rear end and looks like it works better as an anchor for the more gradual slope of the rear window _and_ brought a distinct updated look to the car which it probably needed at the time.

Doing the same to the 997 doesn't make sense IMO because the 997 profile is so "bulked up" and hunched over (because of fender flares and a taller engine to contain). The red panel works well to visually anchor and weigh down an otherwise rather light and dainty rear end on the SC. Just my us$.02.

    Here's a pic for comparison

    Re: 997 FACELIFT

The current 997 is a beautiful car. I suspect the tweaked facelift makes it less pure, and the OP's photoshop is just ugly and vulgar.

I agree with you. I'm having my doubts that the facelift is worth waiting for. Too bad they can't just leave the rear alone.

Well, the technical changes alone will be worth the wait. Concerning the cosmetical changes I guess they will be hardly noticeable at the rear (which isn't a bad thing if you have in mind that the rear of the 997 is already perfect).

Now let's only hope they'll get the front right.

    Re: 997 FACELIFT

We would like to see the real pics of the 997 Facelift..

Someone could have some of it also of the new interior?

And for the Berfes broken record award...Go up a few threads and you will see plenty of them - in fact you've already seen them. Those are real pics and real cars, not PS or toy models.

And the interior will stay the same. It's too expensive to change, just for a light facelift like this so no benefit of anyone taking spy pics of the interior.

    You've noticed that too, ugh?

    Re: 997 FACELIFT

IMO, if they really want to facelift ("update") the car they should get rid of the _POINTY_ tail lights. They worked on the wrong end of the unit.

The pointy thing is looking tired thanks to the dozens of Japanese cars that have run with it over the past few years.

Like how dumb can you get? Either you bring pics of the interior, complete with puddles, or you wait for someone to take an interior shot and post it here. Asking is not going to make it happen any faster!

    Re: 997 FACELIFT

Most you guys might know this but the updated PCM will be something to see.

Gonna be interesting to compare the "before" and "after." Gonna be potentially very embarassing for Porsche too, if it is a radical improvement, when you ask why it wasn't that way at the beginning.

You know..., with the "Expect Excellence" expectation that's advertised all the time.

Oops! No, haven't seen anything. Sorry. What I mean is there's talk of an improved PCM software package to show up with the facelifted car.

Every time there's a styling thread I can always count on MMD getting in there first and making it completely unnecessary for me to post my own thoughts. I need a macro button for posting "yeah, what MMD said."

Isn't that included in the new MS Vista?

    Re: 997 FACELIFT

    From Porsche GB Club forum:

"Just been at Porsche this morning...gleaned/blagged this from them: -
Deposits (3-5K) now being unofficially taken for 997 Facelift car - for AUGUST 2008 Delivery.

    1. DDI injection S models with standard 380 BHP, standard carerra now upto 350 BHP.
    2. New Rear Light clusters, slightly narrower with LED lights.
    3. New Rear Bumper/PU (think this has been well documented).
    4. New Front Bumper/PU again this seems to be well known.
    5. New Headlights.
    6. New Standard and Optional Alloys.
    7. New Touchscreen SAT Navigation System & Bluetooth
    8. New DASH, apparently completely reworking of the Interior...more options "

I feel surprise with #8. New DASH.... but that's all good!

I wish they got some new and light wheels for the new RS.

    Puddles???

No mention of puddles! Any pics???

I'm also surprised by a new dash. That's one of the most expensive pieces to engineer and produce in a car. Why would they bother if this version runs for 3 years or so before we see 20901?

Bumpers- no problem, they're plastic and cheap and easy to make, as long as they fit the same fender body panels

Rear lights: no problem because they will fit the new bumpers and not effect existing fender body panels.

Headlights? Will have to fit same holes in existing fenders.

New PCM? yes. Everybody knows current one sucks..., oops..., I mean current one is non-excellent.

New dash? Sounds unlikely. Would be very costly to make major changes there. Plus the look of the rest of interior is "dependent" on the look of the current dash. IOW, Change the dash: you must change the whole interior too.

Anything you can _bolt on_ to change the look will be considered.

Just my amateur guess. Worth us$.02

    Re: 997 FACELIFT

I just spoke to my dealer about the face lift. Cars should be here in Aug/Sept., new LED lights, Direct Injection and a modest power boost from that. Nothing the 25hp jump noted above. All just speculation until the factory announces the changes though.

    Re: 997 FACELIFT

om seems like we're beginning to agree on some things here..

I think its safe to say the follwing will happen

    1. DDI injection and slight power increase (+10HP-25HP) for both the carrera and carrera S
    2. New Rear Light clusters, slightly narrower with LED lights.
    3. New Rear Bumper
    4. New Front Bumper with new lights (simpler look, back to 911)
    6. New Standard and Optional Alloys.

the rest could happen and hopefully will!!

Yup, It's so nice to agree!

I heard somewhere they will do anything they can to get enough "facelift bling" before they change the big expensive metal stamping dies, welding setups and need new crash test approvals(?). So cosmetically, bolt-on stuff like bumpers/lights are guaranteed to be different.
