    Best Motoring: 997TT, GT3, LP640, Gallardo, STI..

    Very interesting video, gives you a good impression of the track capabilities of these cars.

    I'm not impressed by the 997 Turbo handling at the limit, and that must be one special Subaru STI
    And if you think you know who'll win, make sure you watch the (slightly embarrasing for one of the cars ) end of the race.

    Great video, but what happened near the end. It looked like the 640 was well ahead, then the Exige wins, right?

    On another note, I'm curious how well a six speed (997tt) with LSD would have fared? I'm not so sure that the heavier tip turbo w/o LSD would be faster.

    Granted that these are race drivers and that many fast street cars feel somewhat anemic on a long track. But, I found it amusing when the turbo driver was jumping back and forth wishing for more power on that long straight, while being passed by the Lambo.

    The Lambo could have either overheated and gotten into limp-back-home mode, or it's gear change stopped working.

    RA-R is basically an S204 (320hp) slightly stripped down and with six-piston brembos. Available only in Japan, unfortunately.

    However, the new 2008 STI with a prodrive performance pack (400hp, brakes upgrade) will be no slower and available in Europe (for about 43k euros with the ppp).

    Best Motoring seem to be the only ones that properly test their cars and their track performances defy belief.

    Apparently from the youtube comments, at 6 minutes 20, the Murcie's check engine light comes on.

    Well, the 997TT performance is amazing considering it's a tiptro...Would have thought the GT3 overtakes it. Another couple of laps maybe..

    The LP640 really impressed me. Don't really think of the large Lambo as a nimble track car due to it's size, but watching it go through the field and take corners with it's flat stance, you would have thought that this is a race car. Brilliant! Thanks Temm!

    Ver impressive, but it doesn't matter if the car shuts down after 6 laps though does it

    It didn't look like it had too much trouble following the more than twice the powerful and probably triple expensive G Spyder.

    The Murci "broke down" and the G Spyder couldn't outrun a Subaru STI, not a good day at the track for Lamborghini

    As I don't speak much Japanese, what happened with the G Spyder up the last hill? It was clearly faster than the STI, but for some reason went off the power right before the finish..

    And those japanese 320 hp in the STI might carry a bit more grunt than the numbers imply. Considering the G was a Spyder and the STI set up for a track I'm not all that surprised it was close.

    The Exige was impressive though

    The "heavy" LP640 also had the fastest lap time.

    I think the LP640 made most of its time in the long front and back straights. It was good to see the differences between the Turbo and GT3 in and out of the corners.

    Yes, Temm, every driver in Norway should own one... but not for the track, for the snow! Just had our first snow here in northern Canada, and with Nokian winter tires and snow covered conditions, my STi comes alive - time to play rally god. In fact, while I am still aiming at a classic sports coupe in the next year or two, the STi will likely stay in the stable as winter fun and city-miscellaneous use.

    STI is definently a fantastic car for Norway, only problem is a taxing system which distorts the picture somewhat. When you can pay more than $100k for a car, the 13% increase in price to go from the STI to the BMW 330xi is acceptable for most. I've not tried the new 2.5 STI, but if it's anything like the old 2.0 I know which I prefer . And thats not saying the STI is not a great car, just not as good for me as the BMW
