Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread?

    - I am trying to research which exhaust to buy for a 997 Turbo/ Cabrio. There doesn't seem to be a lot of information on the web-sites of the exhausts so was hoping people w/ experience's could help.

    - So what's the best 997 Turbo exhaust's on the market? Which have the best sound? What about quality? I don't know if I like the idea that the Fabspeed seems to be clamped together, wouldn't you want a fully welded system?

    - I'm considering AWE, Fabspeed, Europipe, tubi.. Someone mentioned Cargraphic's & TechArt's system might be too loud or was it just the TechArt I don't remember. Anyway are there other company's/exhausts I should look at? I'm leaning right now towards tubi, I've always like the quality when I've seen them on Ferrari's. Thoughts???????????

The tubi has a chrome finish:

    europipe looks interesting:

I know a lot of guys here have the Fabspeed, why did you choose it?

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread?

My dealer (champion) likes tubi allot. I have heard their exhaust on the 997s and it sounded good but not 911 like. When I was looking for an exhaust (which I never installed) I was interested in AWE. I did some research, and called the owner of sharkwerks in California. He stands by AWE and told me tubi is great, but it makes the 911 sound like a boat. I'm not sure the one I heard was boat like, but I get the idea of what he was talking about. If I was you I would call him again and see what he thinks of the exhaust for the TT. He was really open with info when I called him and said AWE keeps the sound more authentic to Porsche. I would also ask eclou and see what his experience has been like with AWE. I like the build quality of AWE coupled with the werks intake and a chip from giac!!! I can't wait till I man up and order a TT for myself! Good luck!

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread?

They are all pretty goods, just gotta hear 'em.

You really do need to listen in person - the decision can be very subjective...and the price ranges vary quite a bit. I just put a Europipe system on and couldn't be more pleased. Outstanding quality and even though I don't have dyno info, the 100 cell cats and bigger plumbing really do have an impact on backpressure. Expensive though...I just think in terms of the Euro price and don't convert to dollars.

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread?

Does anyone have an FVD exhaust?

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread

In the interest of OEM (probably not the best or lightest or most power yielding) there is always the Gt2 titanium muffler that will inevitably be out and retrofitted to a Turbo

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread

That my not be a direct bolt-on, from published photos the exhaust location is different than that of the 997TT.

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread

I went with the Fabspeed generation 3 for a variety of reasons, namely build quality, sound and great customer service. The price was right too.
The sound is good, not too loud but definitely not quiet either. I would say it's approx 2x louder than stock in all rpm ranges. No annoying drone or resonance. If you want quiet go for the FS quiet (version 2 for cabs/tips) or leave it stock.
Of the other exhausts, I have heard most of them on either a 996TT or a 997TT. The EP and CG are both very good exhausts, albeit quite expensive.I have heard lots of good things about them, especially the EP. AWE is another excellent choice with great build quality and sound. The Tubi sounds very loud and has been known to drone, better check with some owners on this point.

I just heard the tubi on a video/sound clip & I'm pretty sure I know exactly what he was referring to (the sound clip was actually made by sharkwerks............I think I'm really digging that "boat" sound.. Doesn't really sound like a "boat" but has a very deep burble at very low rpm that I didn't hear on the AWE or Fabspeed sound clips. Sounds very cool imho, but I guess sound is even more subjective than color. I have the video if anyone can help me figure out how to post it.

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread

    Doug & Chris,

Does the car FEEL more responsive with just the exhaust change?
Would you say Fabspeed Quiet is the most quiet of all the systems out there? That's what I am looking for, louder than stock, but not too much.
    Thanks in advance.

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread

I'll share my story. I installed my AWE exhaust over a weekend late at nite and early in the AM sneaking into the garage while my wife slept. She never knew I changed it. That was back in March. Since then, she has driven the car about twice a week, including a couple of days on the track, and many lunch trips taking out her girlfriends and her mother. She has never mentioned anything about the noise, so I figured I pulled one over on her.

Fast forward to last week. I mentioned that some people don't like their exhausts because they were too quiet when stock and too noisy and obnoxious when switched to aftermarket. She told me then that her absolute favorite thing about our TT was the sound of the exhaust. She called it "powerful", "deep," but not overbearing - very much the way a supercar should sound. She said ours sounded much better than the other Porsches she has heard - including other 997tt's. I revealed then to her that ours had been changed, and she said she figured so all along!!

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread?

As long as it does not drone, I think I could start to dig that "boat" sound too.

Those are the statements that always made me consider AWE

My S cab makes a slight burbling sound in the morning when the engine is cold and I really dig it.

Are you sure, there is no sound on the video till about 18 seconds in.

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread?

The FS quiet is just louder than stock, the gen 3's are at least 2x stock. Yes, much more responsive.

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread?

I wonder after I get my FS from TT if I'm gonna want louder...

Twice I've gone after market for exhaust & that happened to me both times..

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread?

Problem imho w/ these video's is it's more about the quality of the video's sound then the exhausts themselves.

    Milltek Exhaust:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iHw-TgaPxc

Sharkwerks site says the Milltek is their most popular 997 Turbo exhaust:
    http://www.sharkwerks.com/products.php?model_id=1&type=Exhaust

Didn't someone mention Check Engine light w/ 100 cell cats? SUNCOAST:

"The value leader for Porsche is now here with the killer 997 Turbo exhaust for this new exciting model. This system is similar to our famous 996TT system but includes some new features after extensive dyno and driving development. This new 997TT system now features a slightly bigger sound and has an awesome burble on idle.

Some of the real benefits of the Milltek exhaust for the Porsche 997 Turbo:
The easiest install in the business. Remove the OEM exhaust, install the Milltek. No intercooler removal. No bumper removal. No turbo removal. Keep it simple!
Real documented power gains. With no software, the system makes nearly 30hp and 30ft-lbs gain
Milltek Sport is the only manufacturer in the USA to utilize genuine 100-cell HJS cats (not restrictive 200-cell cats). That's why this system makes power. Remember to ask questions when comparing to "similar" systems. Insist on solid real genuine proven components. We use the highest cost platinum coatings for effective performance on our 100-cell cats. Higher density and/or lower quality cats equal shorter life and lesser performance.
Look at that system below, beautiful curves, beautiful polish. No weird shaped mufflers.
This system is constructed inside and out with 304 stainless and then carefully polished by hand for you.
Utilizes the OEM tip system to preserve the factory design aesthetic. Hey, it's a Turbo, not a regular 911! "

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread?

I've heard 100 cell cats can cause CEL on some systems (AWE??, FS??). I have 100 cell cats on my Europipe system - sounds great, runs great, no CEL's. The manufacturers should be able to tell you if any potential CEL's lurking with 100 cell cats.

Then I don't think you'll like AWE. AWE and Fabspees are the only ones I heard in person. AWE did not sound bad, I just thought FS sounded a bit better - and louder.

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread?

If you wanna go louder after doing the FS Gen3, you could always get the cat bypass pipe from FS, that will mke it LOUD

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread?

100% correct in that you really cannot judge the sound of these after market exhaust by a video. I have also put an a different exhaust only to be dissapointed with the sound after installation. I have personally heard Cargraphic exhaust on a 997S and thought it was terrific, but I assume that doesnt necessarily carry forth to the turbo engine.
I guess it would be real helpful for anyone with an aftermarket system to relate their experience with both sound and shop install info. I doubt few of us have the setup for DIY install of these systems.

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread?

    I'm in Love.......

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread

Whaw...that's looking graet! When the sound can catch up with the looks , it must be super!

Re: Any interest in an After-market EXHAUST thread

Wow that exhaust system LOOKS GREAT!!! What is it?

But another major problem arises as with an exhaust like that, I would want a clear rear bumper to show it off, and that set off another can or worms.

Then you need to get the FS quiet, the full Gen 3 will be too loud for you.
