Is it possible to add rear seats to the GT3?

My baby will be due next January. I'm just wondering if it is possible to add rear seats to my 997 GT3 or maybe adding belts to hold the baby seat at the rear? This is a car I enjoy over the weekend, and with a new born on the way, I will not be able to take my wife and baby out at the same time. Any guidance will be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Is it possible to add rear seats to the GT3?

That is a good question because I settled for a C2S because I have two kids and need to take them out with me as much as possible so that I can get to enjoy the car more. I put an X51 and an Aerokit on it to make it as powerful as a 996 GT3 and to have the looks of a 997 GT3 but I feel cheated when I found out the engine on the Carreras has nothing to do with the one derived from the GT1 on the GT3. Of course, I found this out after I bought the C2S because I've been an air cooled 911 owner for 20 years and, until the 996s came out, any 911 had a dry sumped split crankcase in different stages of tune regardless of wether or not it was a regular production Carrera or an RS America or Turbo. I feel lied to by Porsche's "integrated dry sump" engine and the sales brochure which makes you believe that the Carreras are race derived cars. I am pondering on selling my 997 Carrera S even when I know I'll take a hit (I paid $121430 for it) to get a GT3 if I can put rear seats on it. Otherwise, I would have to live with knowing my car is way inferior to a proper 911 and only is a 911 in looks because I really need the rear seats on the car. Either that or maybe buy a GT3 altogether, forgetting about the kids, and just take them in the 1987 3.2L Carrera I also own if I want to go out with them.

It would be great if someone in the forum could answer loday22's question as it would answer mine too! Anyone interested in an Artic Silver 2006 Carrera 2S with 11,500 miles and with the X51 and Aerokit as two of the many options I put on the car? It would be for sale if I get a positive answer to my question. Thanks!

Re: Is it possible to add rear seats to the GT3?

My dealer has had two guys ask the same question, and for reasons of liability they said "no". I would ask PCNA direct and see if they would sanction it.

Re: Is it possible to add rear seats to the GT3?

Since this is certified as a 2 seater , Porsche probably escapes liability ( and you may have problems with your insurance company ) if, God forbid, anything happens to your infant if you were to strap him/her in a car seat into the seat well with a set of belts bought from the parts dept. Might be hard to find a dealer willing to install them ( belts ) either.
We all know it's the same body structure , etc, but you know how it goes when it's finger pointing time.To make things worse, some cop who doesn't like guys with expensive cars could even turn you into Child Protective Services .

Re: Is it possible to add rear seats to the GT3?

Remember, that your car will only be insured For 2 people...
would'nt want to risk this With a newborn kid...

Re: Is it possible to add rear seats to the GT3?

No, and this is exactly why the GT3 has lost its reputation as being a hardcore car and why porsche's marketing is selling out the brand.

If for no other reason than liability/insurance.

Get a Aerokit/etc and slap a GT3 logo on the back, or get a turbo.

Re: Is it possible to add rear seats to the GT3?

I asked a Porsche Exclusive staff in Nurburgring during the Oldtimer Grand Prix in August. He said no way to put rear seats in a GT3. In any case, I saw a 996 GT3 with rear seats last year, you could always do it because is phisically possible.

Was probably a relabled Carrera. Rear seats are a dead giveaway of a fake GT2/3

No, it was a real GT3. The work was very well done, but didn't have the seat belts.

Re: Is it possible to add rear seats to the GT3?

I remember reading this somewhere before:
physically it is doable and it's been done before.
policy-wise there is no getting away from the fact that GT3 is certified as 2 seater and the crash test is done so. No insurance company will take the liability for anyone in the self-modded rear seat.

Re: Is it possible to add rear seats to the GT3?

Some insurance companies do cover the GT3 with rear seats (or just seat belts and child seat) installed. Call your insurance company and confirm before modding.
