101 transitioning to 199 or 99 (Crescent City to Gratns Pass) is a terrific road. Plenty of turnouts and passing opportunities for you as well.
Of course the hands-down favorite has to be Route 1 around the John Muir Woods down to Stinson Beach.

The 101 North of Cloverdale is great for triple digit runs as is the 395 East of Yosemite. For turns...the 128 West of the 101 and the 20 from Fort Bragg to Willits are great.

Dan: I prefer Hy 1 north of Bodega Bay. South of that the surfaces were very bad - unless they fixed them very recently.

CA has many amazing roads and some of world's best weather to enjoy them... 
Am far too impatient to ever drive into Podunk, CA (or Podunk anywhere)...even if exurban/rural fwys were speed-derestricted and traffic-free....
Can't think of a more enjoyable and convenient loop (esp during the many off-peak-times) than Woodside mtn twisties and 280 from SandHillRd to 380....IMO, a truly stunning twisties/fwy combo along the effective "spine" of one of the world's most economically powerful&dynamic urban regions....
And, in event of accid, much prefer to be in a corridor w/high-powered med ctrs&physicians nearby....
Speed enfcmt seems very reasonable; often see many latest-tech F/P/AMG being responsibly driven and enjoyed; have only very rarely seen reckless, ricer element (but I tend to do my drives in off-peak-hrs)....my near-misses have typically been w/the oncoming family codger casually straddling both lanes in tight mtn twisties at sub-legal speeds in his allegedly safe&sensible Audi/Volvo/SUV/Prius (prob w/Stanford alumni lic plate frames 
)....

Maybe they worked on them. I didn't notice them to be an issue last week.
