Very nice event! Please tell us your driving impressions and handling differences for the awd 997TT, rwd Carrera S, and mid-engined Cayman S. Which car did you enjoy driving most?
The 997TT arrived late (the truck that was bringging it over had a mechanical failure on the way) so didn't have a chance to test it, but its such a tight track that the TT power would have been useless anyway. I would have liked to see if I found any difference between the electronic AWD in the TT and the viscous on the Carreras though. The last time I had tested the 997TT on track it was pouring wet with no grip.
The CaymanS was very effective, its was agile and neutral, but it lack power as it was slow coming out the corners. Specifically the lack of torque forced you to keep it in high rev range and some corners it was not posible unless you dropped into 1st which would be to short of a gear. Maybe being mid-engined and having a bit less traction on the rear compared to the 911, the Cayman begs more for a rear diff, I don't know.
The AWD Carrera4S Cabrio was an automatic Tiptronic. The Tip ruined it for the track, the pedal had less feel, shifting was boring. Its was also Cabrio so with the Tip+Cab weight it felt heavy, and combined with the fact that is was AWD on top of it it was sluggish turning into the corners and changing direction. Inspite of the AWD I did manage to spin with PSM off due to being to overly optimistic with the throttle on one of the fastest turns
The Carrera2 was manual RWD PASM. It didn't have as much power as the S but you barely noticed it since its was lighter. This was the most fun car to drive IMO. More than the Cayman and although I don't think it was much faster, it was more "fun" to drive, more character, but this is a totally subjective comment from my personal preferences. From the instructors I know most prefered the 911 to drive, but one of them loved the Cayman's chasis and prefered it.
