    Something shocking

My friend forwarded these links for me and I'm shocked to believe that in the land Ayatoolahs (Iran) such cars were allowed to be imported.

Yeah, too bad that sort of stuff will _never_ be widely seen on skillfully edited American TV.

Not a very good portrayal of how "evil" they are when daily life in modern Iran seems so normal.

They have to be government officials' kids because I know ordinary people can't even afford their daily life style.

    Re: Something shocking

    misconception of iran....

    large upper class
higher national average of university educated ladies than most western countries including the US
    national pastime: skiing

    Re: Something shocking

What is so unusual about Lamborghini in Tehran? George Orwell long ago wrote that all are equal. Just that some are more equal than others.

Alot of non government related wealth exists in Iran. The Murcielago belongs to the son of one of Iran's Nokia Distributors. Even though the country is run by mullahs, it has the greatest industrial infrastructure in the Mideast. and remember, mullahs aren't engineers, doctors, ceo's..etc.Its not as its portrayed to be. But you are right, alot of new money government execs exist in Iran. However, it is beginning to shows signs of slowing down

    Re: Something shocking

As I know Iran has lot of business with Euopean and Asian countries (except US). Therefore I never wonder Iran has Lambo or other exotics!

    Re: Something shocking

Sorry - couldn't open the youtube links at the office - I'll watch it when I get home so apologies if I am referring to the same programme...but they certainly do have Lambos in Tehran! I saw a documentary on the BBC called "Rageh in Iran"....they showed a Lamborghini Murcielago in Tehran....heaven knows how they service it there or get the parts....the daughter of the former President Rafsanjani is well known for the many personal imports of exotic sports cars that she does each year for on-sale to the wealthy locals...

    Re: Something shocking

I was in Tehran 16 years ago, and got to see the collection of exotics confiscated from the Shah a decade before my visit. The cars were stored in an underground garage downtown Tehran, and although not used they were in good shape (no vandalism of any kind). Later these cars were somehow sent to Europe for auction. I met a lot of very competent petrol heads in Iran, by the way.

Give me a break, Lamborghini's are hardly indicative of 'normal' lifestyle anywhere outside of Monaco. Just because one or two rich people drive fancy cars doesn't mean the country's streets are paved with gold and rivers run with chocolate

Dude, your believing exactly what western/US politics - which control the media - want you to believe.

The US had everyone believing that

What in the world are you talking about? I'm not trying to turn this into a political debate but last time I checked Lamborghini's aren't running around anywhere like Corollas. That's exactly what I said, just because a couple people have them doesn't mean anything

Considering that the price of a lambo in Iran must be the US equivalent of a veyron, it means that big money resides in Iran and that they al not all live in caves.

Let Bush have his way and they will .
It would seem that even the mighty Ayatollahs will bow when it comes to the business lobby. They lose their support, they lose the country.

    Re: Something shocking

Crash, the Mullahs displaced lots of the historic "business lobby" with their own financial "lobby." Islamic charities control a lot of the market now. If you want to make lots of money in Tehran set yourself up as a mullah (slight fee required!) and get into to the booming real estate market. I am sure a Gallardo is useful to visit the faithful on the ski slopes in the Tabriz mountains. I suggest the optional MP5 rack because eventually the mob may turn on you.;)

Sadly the mullahs have turned it all into a financial and politcal game just for themselves. The country has very high unemployment, starts gas rationing next month and the cost of living is getting horrendous. The people are very nice, the food is great the landscape and history are terrific and many Persian women have both spectacular beauty and brains.

I wish them all a better future.

    Re: Something shocking

    I don't see why it's so spectacular.

Of course there are rich people in Iran, like there are rich people in Irak or like in any other country. What is shoking you? The less democracy you get, the more money some people are gonna get while the rest of the population is starving. No news here.

As saddam had ferraris and lambos, some dudes in Iran have everything you could dream of. You can go to any of the worst shi*t holes on this planet and I'm sure you'll always find a ferrari right in the middle of it.

I don't understand why you guys react like this.
